Just wondering how long did you stay in the hospital?

Recommended Posts

I'm having my VSG tomorrow just wondering how long did you stay. I'm going to pack my hospital bag. I didn't think about asking my Doctor.

Thank you

I was there the day of surgery, stayed the night and went home the next evening. I had no complications and passed my swallow test so there was no reason to be kept there any longer. Why don't you call your surgeons office and ask.

Good luck to you on the big day!!!

Two nights - I had surgery and the next day the barium swallow. And then I had to be able drink 4oz in an hour before I could go home - so one more night.

I had surgery at 7 AM Monday and was home by 7 PM on Tuesday. I had to consume 48 oz of Clear Liquids before I was allowed to leave, and needed to be able to walk around without any assistance.

Not sure if it makes a difference but I had RNY.

Good luck! Pack a book and headphones, as well as a pair of loose fitting shorts and/or a robe.

4 nights. Apparently that is long compared to others.
I was so dehydrated after surgery that I had an IV connected the whole time. On day 2 even 2 IVs for a few hours.
I was so freaked out about the first week that this was a blessing for me. Had my own room and a TV and if anything was wrong I could call somebody.
I was glad. I would have freaked out at home alone.

Six or seven hours after surgery. Had surgery at about noon and left around 7-7:30 pm that same day. I drank my Water, peed and walked so they kick you out!

I was supposed to go home the day after, but they kept me an additional 24 hours due to pain control issues (which were never resolved, just one of the unlucky ones with debilitating pain for 6 weeks).

I had one night in the hospital and was released the next day after I passed the barium swallow test and also was able to consume 4oz of water/hour for a few hours. I know some individuals had to stay one extra night in the hospital just because the Water was hard to get down at first.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
