Does our tummy above the band stretch like Bypass patients do?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Does anyone know if the small stomach pouch above the band can or will stretch out like people with the gastric bypass?

One of the reasons I chose the band was because it was adjustable. I know a few people with the bypass who have stretched out their pouches and can now eat as much as they did before.

Any insight on this?

Yes, I believe it can. If you ever look at a photo/drawing of a slipped band... it looks like the pouch has stretched. I always thought a slipped band was one that slipped/moved. But according to sketches...it just looks like an enlarged pouch.

not sure how to fix it, but i was told if you drink with your meals (BIG NO, NO:thumbdown:) it has the potential to stretch. you would probably have to have it replaced, i would think ! took off and repositioned ??

Sometimes a complete unfill allows the stomach pouch to return to normal size. But if you don't address the behavior that caused it to stretch, you probably will stretch it out again.

6 days ago I had a stretched pouch because I was n ot following the rules (small slip up). I went on a liquid diet for 6 days and when I went in today, it was back where it should be. I got my restriction back, too, without needing a fill. If you are worried that you stretched it and your doc wont check with fluoro/x ray, maybe you could do few days on a liquid diet?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
