What's your BMI when you were banded?

Recommended Posts

I've been told that if your BMI is higher than 50, that you should consider by-pass rather than the band. Mine is higher but I wanted the band - now I'm not so sure... Sandy

Check out this thread I started a while ago, it's dedicated to bandsters with a starting BMI of 50 or higher.

My starting BMI was around 56... I don't remember exactly. I'm now under 33. I love my band.

Mine was 62........now I'm about 35, I think - after 18 months. I did not want a bypass mainly because after a couple of years it is not every effective - I knew I needed a tool that would help me the rest of my life.

My starting BMI was 51 and now it's 27. You can do it! Lots of people started out even higher and now are in the "normal" range. You have to decide what surgery is best for you. I was scheduled for RNY and 2 weeks before surgery changed my mind and have not regreted it.

I was fudging at 30. Had lost weight already so when I had my surgery, it was lower. But, hey...don't penalize me for having put the soda and chips away.

Thing is, I was stuck at 190 and had been for quite sometime.

I believe mine was 47.9 (the exact is in my ticker below) and now its 10 less YAY!!!! You can be just as successful with the band as the rny... but thats ur decision to make good luck!!!<img src="http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/happy.gif" border="0" alt="" title="" smilieid="60" class="inlineimg" />

Mine was 41.9.

My doc bands people with a BMI of 50+ all the time. I think it is a matter of surgeon's preference. If your surgeon won't band you then check with your insurance company and find one who will. It's your body, you need to do what is right for you.

Mine's on my ticker...think it was 44 something...

anyway...my DH started at a BMI over 60 and is doing GREAT since being banded. Like WABB said, if your doc doesn't want to do it, try to find one who will.

Mine was around 55 and now its around 35. My Dr told me he wanted me to get bypass also. It was my decision not his. So I chose Lap-Band and I am happy I did. IMO Dr.s look at Bypass as a guaranteed loss as where Lap-Band you need to work harder for it. They seem to like there stats on patient weight loss better then patient choice sometimes.

3 months ago my BMI was 53 now I am down to 43

I still have a way to go, but without the lapband I wouldn't be able to do it

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
