How long before you return to work?

Recommended Posts

Hello All, I'm curious at finding out how much time people were given to be off of work or how long you waited to go back. I hear that it takes 2-3 weeks but some people feel fine after less than a week.:sick

I had my Band surgery on Thursday 10/25/07 and am scheduled to go back to work on Monday 11/12. So that's about 2.5 weeks.

I'm not sure if I'm ready to go back yet. I'm still so uncomfortable. Please let me know. I know that everyone heals differently and pain levels all vary. I have a desk job, but it is very demanding and fast paced work. I just want to know if I'm being a big baby or not. Thanks.

I've had two of my employees had banding recently. One had her surgery on a Tuesday and returned to work the following Monday. She had a hard time because of all the running around her job entales. The other was out for two weeks and she said she wanted to come back after the first week but decided to just use her time to make sure she was up to par when she got back to work. I myself am taking 2 1/2 weeks too. I will be banded 12/5 and don't go back to work 12/24. Hope that helps.

I was banded on Thursday and returned to work for 1/2 day on Sat. then had Sun & Mon off then returned on Tues. I would rather have had more time off, but I was out of vacation time, so I had to go back. I work at a desk and it is pretty layed back. It still is uncomfortable, but I get up and walk alot and that seems to help. If you got the time ...take it. I would have if I could have

My surgery was on Thursday and I went back on Tuesday. It was a little tough but doable. It would have been easier if I could sit at a desk and take a break now and then but I was tutoring for five hours, then scheduled to teach a class. However, I locked my keys in my car and had to cancel the class.

Today I have taught two classes but mostly remained seated and used a remote for the presentation of my lecture on PowerPoint. I think that helped, as well as the long breaks between classes. I have one more class to teach and then I can go home and rest until I am due to tutor again at 11:30 tomorrow. Then I have Friday and the weekend off! :)

Yesterday, the pain didn't bother me but I felt weak and tired. Today I have more strength but the pain in my shoulder is more intense. It's always sumpin'!

I was banded last Thursday and have been at work all week (including Monday). I have a desk job. I was in a little bit of pain, but I have been just fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
