BBQ Season continues...Grilled veggies, grilled sweet potatoes & grilled salmon w/ some teriyaki glaze on the side...

(I had about 3oz of salmon and about 3/4 cup of the veggies...passed on the sweet potatoes and the honey-heavy glaze...)

I have a question!?

When you ladies make Soup or dish with liquids - Do you eat the solid ingredients along with the broth simultaneously? I was instructed from day one after WLS no liquids ½ hour before or ½ hour after a meal. So, when I eat oatmeal - I save the flavored milk to drink later during my drinking Water phase etc. Or Navy bean soup tonight - I eat the Beans + veggies only but leave the broth. And, often that is the best part! I've trained myself to eat Soups differently now. Also, with red curry Thai dish... similar to summerset's recipe - the coconut curry broth is left behind! ;[

Any thoughts on this?

I never thought much about it tbh. When eating Soup I always ate liquids first, then solids, even as a child. My curries are usually rather "dry". I don't like them with lots of liquids. Same with muesli or porridges.

Sophie7713 your bean soup looks delicious, nutritious and sustaining😋just like dear mom used to make. I’ve added it to my “list to make”, thank you! I, too, have wondered about how to eat/take liquid soup with “chewables” in it.🤔

I wondered the same thing when I was fresh out of WLS so I never really ate liquidy Soups.

Now that I'm a little ways out I'm more relaxed about having liquids and solids together. I still don't eat and drink at the same time unless I begin coughing/choking.

But I will sometimes drink until I begin eating or not wait the full 30mins after eating to drink again (and sometimes I wait hrs between each)

I have the Soup broth first, then the solids. If I have the liquids along with solids I’ll get full really quick, or barf.

Interestingly, I never have/had an issue with liquids before “eating”...I can drink right up to the first bite of food no problem. But I def have to wait 30-45 mins afterwards (unless its pork, in which case I have to wait a little longer depending on how much pork I have).

Weird.

Went out for Indian food with a few friends yesterday. Ordered saag paneer and instead of basmati rice I asked for kale salad but they messed up and gave me rice anyway. And yes I ended up eating a little bit of rice 😭 I swear I really try to avoid these things lol

Looks good, also looks like you hardly had any rice at all, lol.

P.S. Im with you though, i still shy away from rice (surprisingly haven't had any since surgery - 1.5+ years! ...and i used to have it almost every day. I even went from a sushi and maki lover to a sashimi lover lol)

P.P.S. I love all the food pics u post ❤️❤️❤️

Have you begun to eat more meat, GT? Was thinking you preferred vegetarian. The turkey looks so good - is it Cajun styled? What brand? I can never get a turkey product that has any flavor? Love the glass plate. I really miss going to thrift shops, Goodwill and/or estate sales where you can find really neat and unique vintage specialty plates.

Tonight's dinner was clam sauce over spaghetti squash (boy, do I miss the vermicelli though) and summer salad with apples, radishes, red onion + pistachios in the mix. And, of course CHERRIES! ;]

I got Mr. to make his world famous hand-made Pasta and I made a bacon, roasted corn, garlic butter cream sauce with seared bay scallops to go with it.

I don't know why I served myself this sized portion (about 3/4 cup in volume) when I really had no intention of eating it beyond a taste. I did eat most of the toppings though.

Fam ate everything...there were no leftovers! (even my picked-at saucer was cleaned off, lol)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
