speaking of chicken, ha!

this was lunch today, that i picked up after yoga classes (pro tip: don't buy take out on your way home from exercise class because it will likely be deep fried stuff like this omg).

1/3 KFC classic chicken sandwich, 1 KFC chicken tender, and 2 and a little bit of KFC onion rings (the cute little one was my favourite, lol) with a little bit of ketchup & bbq sauce: 462 calories for all of it. ate the tender and the onion rings, but got tired after one bite of the partial sandwich and gave up...so probably 275 calories for what i actually ate (mr. already ate the leftovers).

Did anyone else grow up with parents who told you to clean your plate/not waste food? !?!

I still really struggle with this. I dislike when I portion out food and then feel like I can't finish it, especially if I have already logged it in my app. I definitely have to fight with my brain to just put it in the fridge and finish it later, if I get hungry. I actually think eating out helps with this because I know I'm going to not finish a whole plate or I share with my husband and he will finish it.

my parents did, but they were not prepared to face off with my super-master level of stubbornness:

they would tell me i could not leave the table unless i finished the food on my plate, but i would stay at that effing table for HOURS, not eating...even falling asleep a few times, i remember, just refusing to eat whatever was on that effing plate.

after a while (months? years?) instead of making me sit at the table, they would make me do chores as a punishment instead. whatever. i did the chores. better than eating those disgusting brussel sprouts (spoiler alert: i love brussel sprouts now, lol), but i make them better than my parents did, so...)

fast forward to today, and i always remind my Kid that she doesn't have to finish the food in front of her if she is done. if you don't want to eat, you don't have to eat, man.

Apparently I was also defiant. My Mum loves to remind me I refused to “eat those little trees” aka broccoli at 3 years old. I don’t remember this but I do remember having an irrational fear of eating baby corn at that age. 😆

Went out to brunch with the kiddos. I was starving and decided to order half the menu (what’s new?)

IMG_4077.thumb.jpeg.0a8f30ddb0a39b8cf8cefc0b9349ef5b.jpeg

my order was the truffle scrambled eggs with parmesan at the back of the photo. The kids requested avocado toast with poached eggs which they both shared (and cleared).

IMG_4083.thumb.jpeg.a73b7d961bc6469a14204f80bb06b22b.jpeg

I managed to make a dent in my eggs but then got too full and packed the rest (after photo above). Eating out fills me up way too fast compared to home cooking, but to be fair I also had an oat milk coffee beforehand which probably didn’t help.

The kids also ordered this gargantuan Nutella brioche french toast with caramelized bananas and caramel sauce on the side. They ate half of it and the rest got packed. It was unfortunate that hubby didn’t accompany us to clear out our leftovers.

sushi takeout for a super late lunch (actually this first meal of day...got distracted by errands and realized we were hungry at like 3pm...oopsies

(1) the takeout box - so pretty, right? (2) my before and after (3) calorie count: 261 cals for all of it, ate almost all of it!...also had an espresso martini beforehand (146 cals) and almost ½ a chocolate dip donut afterwards (95 cals)...so approx 502 calories for what i just ate/drank.

My mom force fed me, she was very strict about clearing my plate, then I grew up and she became the opposite and gave me a hard time about “how much I ate” 🤷‍♀️

My mum was terrible cook. She got married in the war and the lack of ingredients didn't help. I think she hated cooking. food at our house was the cheapest cuts and cooked without love. Not because of monetary reasons either

She always had body issues, She died from cancer at 85 weighing 70 pounds. She said she always wanted to be so skinny........

She would feed us on greasy stews with dumplings. Pies. Suet puddings. Tripe. Wesel. An occasional salad in summer. My dad used to make potted meat with pork heads. He never shaved the heads so the brawn was really vile and hairy.

Whatever I didn't eat was put out for my Breakfast dinner and tea untill I had it all secreted away

At 16 I had my Gallbladder and stones removed, the surgeon said it was my diet that caused it. He also said that I was the youngest patient for this surgery. Its hard to be angry with a dead person but it raises its ugly head now and again.

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. It is these generational traumas that we learn to overcome and shield our own children from. Whilst my mom wasn’t a terrible cook she has severe obsession with her body image and has always made me very self conscious about my own body to the point that I attached (still do) my self worth to how much I weigh. I would never do that to my own children.

This salad was really good. Part of its appeal was in the dressing.

Wild arugula, cucumbers, apple slices, pomegranate seeds, feta, pecans, parsley and white and black seasame seeds. The dressing is aged balsamic, honey, lemon, olive oil and salt.

been on a sugar binge the last couple days.

1) yesterday's afternoon snack: 1 cup of silken tofu with 1 tbsp of maple syrup: 235 cals, ate it all (no dumping effects)

2) yesterday's dinner party's dessert: 64g NY cheesecake with 1 tbsp of salted egg yolk puree: 236 cals for it all, ate about ½ the cake, and all the yolk (dumping effect: fell asleep on couch for 45-60 mins and went to bed early to promptly fall asleep again)

2) todays first food of day (i was lazy AND hungry, ha!): 1 homemade oatmeal cookie my niece made and 1/2 an apple fritter: 265 cals, ate it all (dumping effect: tbd...)

mr. always chastises me for eating sugar and asks me why i do it if i know i'll likely be put out of commission...my answer: because its DELICIOUS, and because i CAN (sort of, ha).

I did not. However my boyfriend did and it has been the biggest struggle to convince him that he is free to stop when he wants. At one point he, early on, he tried to control my intake, I had to set a hard boundary. He even apologizes if he can't finish something. I honestly wish parents didn't do this to children because it's feels impossible to reverse. Sending virtual hugs to you and strength for the battle.

This is hopefully something I’m doing right with my kids. Several have sensory issues around food so I don’t push it. My youngest has “exploration” bites and if he doesn’t like it then I’ll make him a pb&j which is a safe food for him. But I constantly remind my kids that if they’re done eating they don’t need to eat more and that listening to their body is the best thing they can do for themselves.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
