I like trying different food from all over the world. I ate this golden egg today. 60 calories, 59 grams of contents. It was an egg restuffed with seasoned duck egg in rice. You boil it for 20 minutes then eat it with a tiny spoon included in the package. Not too sweet not too salty but savory. Like a riceball with egg in the center. One of the most interesting things I have ever tried. 20221112_130331.jpg 20221112_130117.jpg 20221111_130642.jpg

I would never have guessed that these are vegan dishes!

The VeHappy cheeze is bomb. It melts and browns on relatively dry surfaces (in fact it needs a relatively dry surface or it just gets runny and I thought that the sauce might be too moist already but luckily it wasn't). It's perfect as a topping for pizza, toasts and casseroles. Usually vegan cheezes need moisture to get even remotely good.

VeHappy is a store brand. Alas, not every store carries it and I've never seen it online (luckily me favorite melty burger/sandwich slices are available online). I have to buy it when I'm visiting my husband in the North of Germany.

What consistency do these biscuits have? Are they crispy? Squishy? Dense or more light on the inside? Enlighten an ignorant European, please. 😂

yeah, what @sillykitty said lol.

These biscuits where crispy-ish on the outside and were supposed to be light and fluffy-ish on the inside (they normally are, i swear!)...

but a combination of over-working the dough (i kneaded maybe 20-25 times instead of my normal 10-15), AND an over-floured surface i kneaded on contributed to its unintended dense-ness and lack of height. oopsies.

but they were still delicious!!

Send them over. I like my doughy foods on the dense site. 🤣

But seriously … brunch with my BF

Market veggie sandwich with chicken white bean Soup and two of these gingerbread donuts. If I had to guess cals I would overestimate at 1000 cals

The balls look exactly like "Quarkbällchen".

I just googled Quarkbällchen and these did have an “added yogurt” texture to them.

@GreenTealael that dal looks so good! I’ve been on a real Soup kick lately… I think because of my stomach issues lately it’s the most comfortable way to get food in me, and the most nutritious. Now I’m craving Dal!

why yes, yes i did! (but i had coffee lol).

when i was a teenager, i worked in a british-themed bakery/cafe in an amusement park. they had a "tea time hour" and sold these babies by the truckload. i fell in love with them then. (that and steak & kidney pie! lol)

and here you go!:

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 3/4 cup FROZEN butter (grated)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1.25 cup whole milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  • Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
    • Mix in the grated butter into flour mixture. Don't go too crazy here - you want to see small, pea-sized pieces of butter throughout the dough.
  • Add in the milk and egg and mix just until the ingredients are combined. The dough will be sticky but don't keep working it.
  • Turn the dough out onto a generously floured surface. Sprinkle some flour on to the top of dough so it won't stick to your fingers and knead 10-15 times. If the dough is super sticky just sprinkle on some additional flour.
  • Pat the dough out to 3/4 - 1 inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter or glass (alternatively you can just drop large spoonfuls on the baking sheet)
  • Place the biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet or parchment lined baking sheet or silicone baking sheet and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  • For extra yumminess, brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter immediately after taking out of oven.
  • Serve warm, its better!; or let cool and serve with fresh whipped cream and your choice of jam.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
