Made a pot roast from part of that brisket I bought a couple weeks ago (Also broke it down into 5.5lbs of ground beef/ stew meat and a corned beef for next week.). I actually spit out the last piece of roast I was chewing because I felt full. It was also onions and potatoes.

Confession: i like cute food.

Anything mini or sample sized is my jam, lol.

Got these red bean salted egg yolk pastries as a gift and omg aren’t the little containers they are in adorable???

On top of that, they were DELICIOUS.

Ate one, 210 calories. Yummmmmm.

Y’all, I’m thinking about starting a food blog about budget meals. I went shopping for my personal weekly groceries (no kids included this time as we mostly eat separate meals) and spent $35.38US.

So far I’ve made these-

lunch was a salad with scrambled tofu, roasted peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and romaine with a homemade dressing.

dinner was roasted chicken thigh, roasted sweet potato, spinach and a smidge of garlic confit.

Did you start your blog. I am working on healthy meals for a family of five that are low carb. I would definitely follow :)

Not yet but starting in November I’ll be making a career move to day shift in my same position (I currently work nights). It’s a shift difference pay cut but I’m ok with it because it’ll mean better sleep and the ability to do more on my days off.

OHHH! Do you add the cottage cheese into your spaghetti? I never thought of that, even with Ricotta.. it would make it so creamy!

Spaghetti squash and yes! I find it delicious that way. It ups Protein and adds the creamy factor without heavy cream for less calories- 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese is 80 calories and 13g protein where 2tbsp heavy cream is 100 calories and no protein.

yea, I was being lazy and didn't type "squash" I love spaghetti squash but it gets a little watery, so adding something to thicken and cream it up is a great idea and like you said ups the protein! I will definitely be trying this! Thanks!

Posting on this thread makes me realize i need to clean up my diet (despite the fact that i am already logging everything i eat!)

1/8 of a monte cristo sandwich and some sour cream and onion chips : 356 calories (which includes an espresso martini that I drank beforehand, not shown).

Ate it all.

I have seriously been so lazy the past few months to make something more suitable.

My cousin that i saw for (Canadian) Thanksgiving, whom I haven’t seen in a couple years (eff u Covid) actually called me “skinny-fat” to my face over the weekend. Inner outrage aside, i kinda agree with her.

*Sigh*…Next meal is gonna be a salad, swearsies.

I honestly think that most of my family that is thin is what you call “skinny fat”. They just eat like birds but they eat foods that are not very nutritious at all and all the time. I am seriously not convinced it’s a bad thing though, for them, because even the older ones are still pretty darn healthy. Idk it could be the kind of thing that catches up with you eventually but they honestly just seem to be blessed to me.

It’s where a “skinny” person eats foods that aren’t nutrient dense and considered unhealthy for most of their diet. Things like fast food, chips/crisps, fries/chips, fried foods, loads of fat and sugar, etc.

Further to what the others have said, “skinny-fat” is a term used to describe someone who looks thin but is otherwise unfit and “unhealthy”. My husband said I was “soft” recently…another way of saying im skinny-fat. I guess its the general consensus around here that i need to eat better and exercise more. Geez.

Its true i guess…while im only a couple lbs heavier than i was in my exercise heyday, I definitely look waaaay less fit than i used too. I’ve likely lost a considerable amount of muscle mass and replaced it with fat.

Im not so bothered by it that i want to make drastic changes, but the comments are definitely annoying.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
