That doesn’t look like 1300 cals!!

I know right! It has been eye opening now that menus have the calorie count listed. Honestly I would have thought this was the “healthy choice” but most of the “dessert” Breakfast items were half the calories.

Sometimes I don’t think they measure portions or ingredients the same as when they calculated those supposed calories. Especially when it comes to unpackaged Salad Dressing and toppings like cheese or granola. Such small variations can make such a big difference.

So I made lower calorie/ low carb nachos. It’s a black bean and chicken nacho with homemade tortilla chips (from low carb wraps). On the side nachos in a baked scoop because I honestly didn’t think it was gonna work but they are pretty good. I just toasted the wrap in a skillet with cooking spray and salt and then topped with Beans, chicken, cheese and onion and baked to melt the cheese. Then added the cold toppings. Hubby just came home and I met him at the door with my experiment. He said it was good too and he can eat anything he wants so that says something.

Butter, butter, butter. Can’t stand margarine - tastes so synthetic. I agree with the others. The little you’d eat on this is nothing. It’s not like you’ll be drowning your steak & lobster in butter or eating that amount every day. If you use little added fat in your meal prep most of the time, adding a little more occasionally isn’t going to make a huge difference.

Just realised I’ve been using the same 500g tub of butter since December. It may be time for a fresh tub. 😆

PS - I used to mash anchovies with butter to put on my steak sometimes pre surgery. Don’t enjoy anchovies alone but like this yum! Plus Omega 3, selenium & other nutrients, & salty goodness on your steak.

Another confession: I often secretly put anchovies or fish sauce in the meals i make for the fam for an added umami flavour if it calls for it. Don't tell them though cuz they'd be horrified. But i mean, they can't even tell i put em in, and they eat everything up anyways!

Well I thought couldn’t stand anchovies but love ceaser dressing. Now I know the secret ingredient I guess I can’t say that anymore. Maybe it’s the texture I don’t like and when they are made into a paste they are fine?

For my fam i think its the smell, or even just the idea of it that makes them pause. But cant argue with flavour!

“I put that sh*t on everything” lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
