Yeh I read there needs to be proper rinsing and cooking technique so it doesn't smell too horrid. I'll wait for others to post their experience and how they prepped for it.

I’ve had good results using this preparation process:

https://ketodietapp.com/Blog/lchf/how-to-cook-and-like-shirataki-noodles

However, it is kind of a hassle, so I rarely feel like it’s worth the effort to do this. But it is an excellent substitute for Pasta, and tastes more like real pasta than zoodles or spaghetti squash (although I do love spaghetti squash!).

If you search this thread, you'll see quite a number of posts about them, particularly by @ms.sss

Yes ive written my share of posts about shiratake noodles!

Preparation tip i learned from one of the members here a while back:

*Rinse them under running cold Water for 2-3 mins, drain then DRY FRY them in a really hot pan until there is no more water pooling in the pan. Don’t worry they are really hard to burn, lol. That should get rid of the smell, and now can use them in whatever way u want ta-da!

I eat these quite regularly, but note they basically have ZERO nutritional value (but also next to no calories), and i find them super filling, so a little goes a looooong way.

Now that we got those un-inspiring rest stop fast food options behind us, bring on the Degustation!!

One of many things I ordered last night that Mr had to eat the rest of after I took my obligatory tasting bites: Plogue à Champlain Foie Gras: a small pancake, topped with melted cheese, roasted fingerling potatoes, fried egg, think cut Canadian bacon, crowned with a slab of seared foie gras, smothered with a maple Syrup reduction.

Omg im drooling just writing out the description.

🤤

I have no idea what the calories are…but definitely not for the calorie watchers, nor those prone to heart disease.

P.S. i/we also ordered a bunch of other stuff from our night of venue hopping, but the picture quality of these progressively decreased as our alcohol consumption increased.

Has anyone tried *Konjac noodles*? I just came across these Japanese noodles that are extremely low in carbs and calories. Can fit perfectly in our lifestyle when we crave noodles.

Not sure if anyone has posted any pics here or had a discussion around it.

No, but Heard that they aren’t very good. I’ve never been a lover of Pasta so looking for substitutes post sleeve wasn’t ever a thought for me.
Like many have said there are posts on here of diff techniques of making them.
When people talk about the smell…what is the smell y’all? What is it compared to? Fishy?

I eat kelp noodles over shiritaki noodles. Either way they’re both filling but I find that kelp noodles even though made from kelp don’t smell ocean-y. Plus I’m a fan of iodine from food since I don’t get it from salt as I only use iodized salt for baking.

100% Home cooked and yes very delicious!!
Thank you😊
Want a laugh…I much prefer home cooked meals over eating out now.
Feel like me and my husband (ok my husband lol we all know I hate to cook)
But he does a better job than any place we go out to

I had them a lot pre surgery, Once opened you need to dump them in a sieve and drain them. Run them under cold Water to rid them of the smell and put them in at the end of anything you need them for. They just need warming through

Lol i still love to go to restaurants (and reading the menus!), but there are certain things that i don’t order cuz Mr. make far superior versions at home. Specifically, steak, Pasta and pizza!

But seriously, that salmon and shrimp plate definitely looks restaurant-y 🤤

First meal of day: 1/2 an everything bagel, cream cheese, capers and red onion: 166 calories.

Ate it all.

P.S. this is the first food i’ve logged since going on mini-vacay for a couple days…I actually kind of missed it! Bonus: came back the exact same weight as when i left (118.8)…but as is usually the case, i didn’t poop while away so i suspect i’ll go down a bit. 🤭

@ms.sss I agree! Certain things I do like out-ex For me, Mexican food-which we have some awesome Mexican food here in Texas!
We really like to eat Mexican food out. We have made it at home-like grilled up fajitas and it’s good but we prefer out on that.
Which guess what?! We are now going to go eat that for dinner! Yummmmmm

Dined out again last night. This time a French inspired restaurant in a small country town in a sympathetically restored & decorated heritage building. Stole a yummy prawn beignet from my mum’s entree (appetiser) & I had a double baked scallop soufflé in a prawn bisque for my mine. The soufflé was delicious but I could only eat half - it was super rich & didn’t sit well but still worth the bites I had. Very sad though because I left the left overs behind. Their plating needs a little refining but everyone loved their meals.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
