I make a mean strawberry meringue cake (technically a Dacquoise, but i feel like “dacquoise” just doesn’t sound yummy, lol)…layers of nut meringue between layers of a whipped cream-mascarpone mixture and strawberries.

I'd love to have your recipe if you're willing to share it, @ms.sss. (I love dacquoise, and think everything about it is yummy, including the word.) Yours looks fabulous!

Of course. Recipe is below…you can sub some or all of the sugar with a low cal sweetener (I sometimes use swerve or monk fruit…me nor fam can tell the difference). The original recipe actually called for almost double the amount of sugar/sweetener that I’m using below…I have made this a number of times with varying amounts of sugar to find what we think is “sweet enough”…so you like it sweeter, just add more sugar in any of the various elements.

Also, here are a couple pics of ones I’ve made before for reference of what it looks like before cut into…yum, right?!?! Lol

Recipe here: Strawberry Meringue Cake.pdf

P.s.I’ve also subbed the strawberries with peaches, chocolate, and lemon curd, all quite successful…but strawberries remain our fave.

p.p.s. …and can swap out the almonds for basically any nut..I added some ground sesame seeds last time and it was delicious.

Defrosted one of my frozen meals last night. Truely a mystery meal. Couldn’t remember what it was & hadn’t written on the bag. Turned out to be ginger pork tenderloin stir fry. Looks a bit sad but was zingy with ginger. Looks more but it was about 1.5 cups which I ate over an hour.

I'm freezing a lot of Soups lately - Isn't it great to just have dinner already prepared! Like this wedding Soup with chicken meatballs and spinach.

A mini charcuterie board, lol!

grapes, carrots, peppered salami, jalapeño havarti, truffle cheddar, and plain old cheddar. With some blue cheese dip on the side (i looooove blue cheese): 367 calories.

Totally intend to eat it all while i binge watch my latest series du jour (Outlander, lol…dont judge me!)

Not a food before & after more of a no food issue. The shelves are bare at the supermarket again this week & I’m really struggling to find the products I buy regularly that form a big part of my eating regime. Been having to make some poor food choices: processed foods & not the raw ingredients I prefer to buy. Calories are increasing & I’m struggling to meet my Protein goal.

It’s not a hoarding issue as such here in Australia at the moment, it’s a supply chain problem. No workers, no transport drivers, no logistics handlers, etc. (Damn all those young people who had to go out en masse to Celebrate Christmas & New Year, got sick then infected their families, friends & co workers.) So even if a company has some staff & can produce produce a reduced volume of goods, they’re struggling to get it transported to the grocery store distribution centres & then to the actually stores.

Last week & again this week I couldn’t buy rolled oats, lactose free milk, high protein yoghurt, chicken tenders, prawns, Protein Bars, tinned mixed Beans, Water, etc. plus not as urgently washing powder & toilet paper. Of course there seemed to be pallets of coke & chips. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I even went to a couple of different stores to see what I could find.

It had been occurring for a couple of months on random items but the last fortnight has been terrible. They’re saying this could continue for another month.

I said to the checkout girl that this must be what it was like in Russia back in the 70s & 80s when they had to line up for bread & other essentials. She looked at me blankly but she was barely 18. 😉

That is terrible. What substitutes are you comfortable making?

I’ve noticed some missing items also ☹️

You could have said USSR if you really wanted to make her head spin 😂

USSR love it. Her head would have exploded I’m sure.

I am fortunate that I have a very good, but very expensive, butcher who still has meat so I have meat for dinner but I tend to get the chicken, salmon & prawns I eat at lunch from the supermarket as they’re a lot cheaper. But the meat sections in the supermarkets are very bare. Honestly I am a bit fussy. but there are certain things my tummy just doesn’t enjoy plus I can’t do the spice thing at all. The available stock is so erratic. Like this week they had prawns (yay) but were marinated in chilli (boo). I’ve spent time over the last 2+years finding the best food options - best Protein, best general nutrition with least or no sugar/artificial sweeteners, low carbs & low calorie. Last week I went to three different stores to try to find what I needed. All I found was three tubs of yoghurt, a couple of protein bars & … processed frozen crumbed ‘chicken’ schnitzels - the horror! Because I don’t absorb protein well anymore, being unable to buy my trusted protein sources is a a worry. Oh God, I may have to go back to shakes - shudder.

@Arabesquecould you do dry Beans over tinned and prepare them yourself? I would send you oats and beans in the post if it wasn’t for customs and food rules.

Re: portion sizes post surgery- I am 6mo out & at my goal of WNL. For lunch today I had 1oz Banza Pasta, 3 shrimp & ~2tbps of Raos sauce. I made double but that was all I wanted. I’ll have the leftovers as a snack or dinner.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
