Made Soup (again)! This time it was this copycat recipe of Panera’s autumn squash soup. I omitted the cream cheese and used fat free evaporated milk instead along with an entire can of pumpkin purée because what am I gonna do with a half a can I’m bound to forget in the fridge?! I also couldn’t find my nutmeg and instead used pumpkin pie spice and way more cinnamon than it called for but still good.

I have a question...and it is NOT meant to be judgemental, but instead comes from a true place of knowledge seeking. I'm relatively new to this whole eating actual food post-op thing.

Do you all expect to eat all the food you put on your plate? I see a lot of plates with a lot of food on them in the "after" photos...or a statement like "I ate a quarter of that" (as in post above...again, not judging, just using you as an example ShoppGirl!). I guess I'm just not sure why you'd put all that food on the plate if you didn't expect to eat it. *I* know I'd try if I had it there (solid member of the clean plate club here!). But...my little plate looks so pathetic with just 3oz of food on it, I know I'd *like* to put more on it!

Thanks All!

I’ve actually noticed that it’s really hard to get the portion just right and if I’m down to a few more bites and I’m feeling full, I end up trying to finish.

But if I have more than a few bites to finish, it’s easier for me to say “I’ll finish this for my next meal.”

Thank you ALL for your honest answers! I'm eight weeks out, so solid foods for four weeks, and really having trouble with the portioning. If I don't weigh everything out, I worry I'm over eating. Still struggling with the clean plate club, but working on it every day.

Have you invested in smaller plates? Also, if it still looks skimpy to you, you can learn to do beautiful vegetable garnishes on YouTube that will fill up the plate. (Bonus: disposing of the tiny scraps from vegetable carving will re-train your brain that it's okay to throw away food.)

Too lazy to make a salad, so am eating a slice of homemade pesto-mushroom-tomato-roasted garlic-prosciutto pizza Mr. made for dinner last night. The deep fried thing on the side is an arancini ball, also leftovers from last night.

Had I eaten everything on the plate, it would have been 397 calories.

But since i didn't eat the arancini, and ate about 3/4 of the pizza, I just logged 200 calories in MFP (I tossed the leftovers cuz I had no intention of eating what was left).

Oh, and I also had as espresso martini (not shown) beforehand: + an additional 141 calories

Ok, I can tell its going to be one of those days that I just want to eat something, but nothing is going get my motor running.

Thought I reeeeeaaaaally wanted to eat this mini Sfogliatelle from my fave Italian bakery (crispy italian pastry with sweet ricotta filling...this one was also flavoured with pistachio), but then I took like 2 bites and was like, meh. The Kid gladly ate the rest though.

The entire thing is probably 250 calories, but am logging 1/3 of that for what I figured I actually ate: 83 calories

I realize this is my 3rd food post on here in the span of about an hour, which speaks my unsatisfied munchies.

Well, finally found something that hit the spot! 20g chunk of double smoked gouda wrapped with a slice of prosciutto: 150 calories. Ate it all. I should be good now!

That's the hardest thing about counting calories for me -- I'm really good about logging foods before I eat them, but not so great at judging afterward how much I didn't eat. Sure makes it hard to be accurate.

Same.

During weight loss phase and several months immediately after, I would just log the whole thing whether I ate it or not. I figured it was better to over-estimate than under.

Now, I just try to guesstimate what i actually ate cuz I eat ALOT more these days, and if i logged the entire meals I serve myself I would be waaaaaay over.

Its been days now since I had a salad, which is very unlike me.

Mind you this salad is more like a smorgasbord of leftovers in the fridge. But whatevs, I'll take it.

Romaine, cucumber, carrots, grapes, feta, roasted garlic, watermelon, pumpkin seeds, kimchi, roast pork, anchovies & vinaigrette: 327 calories for the whole thing.

Am currently eating it and will likely eat it all throughout the day.

2 of my nerdlings are diehard mushroom fans so I made beef stroganoff for dinner and since I reheated the Pasta in the sauce I picked it out of my plate which a very willing (😱) 6yr old ate. The white stuff is pineapple fluff- sugar free vanilla pudding, milk, cool whip, pineapple (I used a fresh one), and sweetened flaked coconut…. Not as great as I remember. Total at about 250 calories. And seeing as I’m only at 510 calories for today I’ll have to figure out something even though it’s almost bedtime. 😩

So a before, a leftover pasta and an after.

Beer battered Halibut and some frozen fries. A little bit of homemade tartar sauce too.

350 calories for the plate.

oh, plus an espresso martini: +141 cals

Oh x2: an extra table spoon of mayo that I added to the sauce cuz it just didn’t taste right: 94 cals (which I didn’t end up eating so didn’t log.)

Nice on the countertops!

Ah - sorry - no bun - that’s actually Mozzarella on top. The recipe actually calls for using tomatoes as Buns but that doesn’t work. Pre-surgery, I used a slider bun with slices of Tomato on it. Now I just do the tomatoes on the side no bun. The mixture is just 1 lb ground chicken, 2 TBS torn basil (I tend to put more basil in than that), 1/2 TBS balsamic vinegar, 1/4 c grated Parmesan, 2 cloves garlic (I tend to do 3), Kosher salt and pepper. Form into 5 patties and then brown in 1 TBS olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. 6 min on one side, 4 min on the other, then put a slice of fresh mozzarella on top and put the lid on the skillet and cook another 2-3 min. Serve with tomatoes and balsamic glaze if desired.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
