Yesterday was Canada Day. There were no public celebrations because of the pandemic, but we spent most of the day with friends who are part of our small social bubble. I brought a picnic-style lunch for everyone: vegan banh mi with oil-free cannellini bean miso mayo in coconut wraps, green salad with oil-free blueberry vinaigrette, and various flavours of smoothies. We ate grilled peaches with orange blossom Water, pistachios, and tofu ricotta for dessert.

Most of my friends are foodies, and a few are chefs. A vegan chef made dinner, so it was fairly spectacular: kale Caesar salad with roasted chickpea croutons, smashed roasted potatoes with garlic avocado aioli (I skipped this), and black bean, mushroom and walnut burgers with caramelized onions and roasted Tomato chutney (sugarless) on raw dehydrated onion and mixed seed (pepitas, sunflower seeds, flax seed, psyllium husk) zero carb Buns. Dinner was lovely, but I enjoyed not having to make it even more. We ended the day with homemade raw vegan coconut ice cream bars (sans caramel; I only had one bite). Whew!

Even though I still can't -- and don't want to -- eat much, participating in a food-focused social gathering was exhausting. This formerly well-worn neural superhighway of mine has been "road closed / detour" since surgery, and will remain that way save for one or two days per year, at most.

So...

I'm going to need you to hold a newspaper with today's date in these pics to prove who made this 😂😂😂😂😂😂

There are quite a few recipes to check out here; have tried a few and they were good, but of course they all involve Protein Powder since it's a Protein powder company website.

I don't mind protein powders. I use them regularly in e. g. oatmeal anyway. I like this creamy texture they provide. I also like protein mug cakes once in a while.

I found some recipes on the Alphafoods, Nutri+ or Vega website I'd like to try plus of course several on the web or in fitness magazines I browse on Readly (the peanut protein balls were awesome, I posted them on this thread a while ago). When using a Protein Powder I usually doesn't have to use any additional sweetener. The powders are sweet enough.

What powders do you use? I use Alphafoods, Nutri+ and ProFuel - Vega is very hard to get your hands on in Europe as it seems.

This combo is a keeper. I'm going to add more wakame salad next time though (also a keeper, got it frozen from the asian supermarket I regularly shop at for specialties). Next time I'm going to try with a vegan mock salmon filet. If that's good it'll substitute the fish.

Semi-pro tip: try to find sone dried wakame. I find that they are less soggy and have a better texture than frozen after its re-hydrated..

It's not frozen wakame, it's frozen wakame salad with sesame seasoning and all. I won't even attempt to copy it, lol.

I use dried and re-hydrated seaweed in Soups though.

More salad...i know, i know, getting repetitive. I’ll make sure my next salad posting looks a little different, lol

Romaine & vinaigrette , carrots, cucumbers, baked chicken breast, feta, seedless grapes, spicy roast peanuts & chilli garlic condiment.

402 calories (the feta and peanuts upped the calorie counts this time...but sooo yum, so sooo worth it 😉)

...am eating as we speak, so dunno where i’ll end up...

I had some fake chicken that had to go but was more in the mood for bean Pasta with something-tomato. So there it is: Tomato sauce, fennel, red bell pepper, the chicken and cashewsan on bean fettuccine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
