any tips on getting through this part

Pre-op was hard for sure. Did a house purge which made it some amount easier, but hub and kids mean there’s always something around. Honestly, it was a lot of mind over matter, I knew it would be totally apparent to my dr. If I didn’t, and it mattered to me that I showed my commitment to them as well.

Pre or post surgery? If pre, I'm on day 9 of 14 of my pre-surgery liquid diet. Sorbet is awesome (sugar-free), I've been doing Protein Shakes and filling in with broth to change up my taste. Bullion cubes have only 30 calories per cube and so you can actually have quite a bit which can help you feel full. Skim milk is a fallback for me as well as it isn't the greatest nutritionally but helps you feel fuller. I tend to eat/drink the same things over and over and enjoy repetition, so that's not a problem for me, but it gets easier each day. I still have cravings a ton, but I just move on and remember that I'm 6-8 weeks from being back to a "normal" diet again. You can do it!

Your surgeon should have given you guidelines on this; from what I’ve seen it tends to be a little all over the place. Mine was 3 Protein Shakes, (I did the Costso Premier Protein), 3 oz of lean chicken, unlimited (specific) veggies, and then I was supposed to really watch the SF in takes. And a lot of Water. Really; low low carb. Let me see if I can get a picture in here.... but all of #2 is a no no.

@marcuspak I'm hoping to start August 1st a full,4 week prediet before my September 5th,surgery. I hope I have the guts to stick it out, can't have the balls cause of course I'm a woman. I had my choice of the duration 2,3,or4weeks but they said 4 you heal smoother, quicker and easier. That sounds good to mr, my plan even sounds doable, 4 high Protein Shakes, two Snacks of fruit and dinner is a 300 calorie low carb frozen dinner or comparable homemade, no potatoes, corn or peas. And all the no calorie drinks and Water my stomach, heart and kidneys can stand 64 oz and above.👍😛

All of you are a great help , Makes me feel that I'm not alone going through this . I have my wife but I don't think she gets how hard this has been . .The stop smoking is the hardest for me . But doing good so far . What makes it worse ids she smokes . Cant wait until this is over .

No use nagging her, she will quit when she wants to and if she wants to. In the meantime, in between times do the best you can with the hand you're dealt. And onwards toward surgery!😛👣😷

@lviz Omg youre so lucky look at that buffet of choices! My surgeon is strictly 4 Protein Shakes a day, calcium chews 1500, and my chewable vitamins for 3 weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
