Drank regular coffee (my beloved Columbian Supreme from Sams for the Keurig) up until the day before surgery then changed to Green Mountain Decaf for two weeks post op. At my 2 week post op the PA approved me going back to my regular coffee and I have had absolutely no problems. I do use about 3 ounces of Premier Protein shake instead of the half and half and Davinci Syrup I used before.

I have been drinking half regular and half decaf for years now and so I've been cutting down even on that. I love love love my coffee. But I want to be successful in the post-op phase and the healing as well as I do not want to have that coffee withdrawal headache 😢... Thank you for your experience you've given me hope

2 Main Reasons: 1. It irritates, your stomach lining , something you don't want healing a surgical stomach wound. 2. It acts as a diuretic, when you are working and working to get and keep an adequate amount of Fluid coming, do you really want to "tinkle it all away" before it's of benefit to your body's tissues?☕ Okay?

I stayed away from coffee for maybe six weeks. I drank it only occasionally before and was never dependent on caffeine so it wasn't a big deal. However, I now drink it more than ever and I can feel effects of caffeine much more. My sleeve is fine though, I am staying hydrated, I don't know should I be worried.

Will only drink Decaf at recommendation of my surgeon. Tastes the same to me and is satisfying.

Accidentally ordered an iced tea with caffeine (misread the label at the coffee shop because I was flustered and needed to make a quick decision with line behind me). I had half of a small caffeinated iced tea (half black, half green, no sweetener or anything else in it) and I am WIRED af. I was so productive but will have a lot of trouble getting to sleep tonight.

The problem is now I remember what being caffeinated feels like after weaning off and being coffee free since mid-July! Very dangerous! Going to have to ask my NUT again if/when reintroducing caffeine might be okay, especially with the school year starting up!

AdvantEDGE came out with a Cold coffee, protein shake, I wonder if it is totally decaffinated? Has anyone tried it yet? Its only a 100 calories, at least most of the Advant EDGE are.🍶

I've been using Manatee coffee for years, it's lower in acid and tastes amazing. And part of the proceeds go to saving the manatees. I was an avid coffee drinker and gave it up 2 weeks prior to surgery and had a Dunkin Decaf 1 week post op. It tasted good and I missed that coffee flavor. But I'm not sure I'm willing to risk the acid production in my new belly to return to an old habit just yet. I've survived now 3 1/2 weeks caffeine free and am doing OK. I still crave coffee, but I'm willing to wait until my body has healed from the inside out.

I think with this new lifestyle it's about creating new healthy habits and if I have to, I'll include decaf hot teas. Although the decaf coffee wasn't too bad.

I ordered some of this (link goes to Quest Cold Brew coffee Protein powder). It's a bigger expenditure than I'd usually make when trying something entirely new to me, but Quest has never let me down--except by putting tree nuts in their protein bars--flavor-wise, I trust them.

Anyway, it says it has "natural coffee flavor," which I take to mean that, if it isn't 100% caffeine free, it's darn close. I'm excited about having a coffee-flavored Protein Shake in the morning, without the actual coffee. (Yeah, I'm allowed to have it--my surgeon doesn't ask anyone to stop drinking caffeine--but like others have said, coffee can be a bit of a stomach irritant. And everyone seems to have so much trouble getting their fluids in, in the first weeks, that I don't want to take up any space with coffee.)

I'd offer to report back about whether or not it's good, but individual tastes vary so much. GNC often has single-serve Quest packets, if you're curious and want to try it without committing to the big container.

Spoke with NUT recently and yes caffeine has its issues with Calcium binding etc, but coffee specifically is highly acidic (or maybe just causes high acid production can't remember, exactly) and that's really what they worry about. Im going to find a decent low acid coffee, alternate with Decaf and regular if im really hard up. Picking my battles...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
