Question I'm trying to decide should I take 2 or 3 weeks off from work

Recommended Posts

There are other factors that should impact your decision. How old are you, how much is your starting weight, what kind of work do you do, etc.

I would not taken anything less than 3 weeks to recover. The first 2 weeks are difficult with moving around and painful too. You are also not supposed to lift things in the first 3 weeks (as in over 10 lbs). I would not recommend being alone during initial recovery. Its good to have someone there to help with grocery shopping, laundry, mopping, washing the dishes and if you are feeling sick, someone is there to take you to the doc. I personally had very low blood pressure after surgery which made me feel very weak. After any general anesthesia it takes a toil on your body for a couple weeks and you feel weak. So its a good idea to have help around you for at least 2 weeks is my advice

I must be in la la land, I just saw all your stats. oh boy, I need to go to bed lol you have lost 130 lbs on lap band!! OMG that is incredible. Honestly, you have come such a long way already. I am hoping to be your current weight in a few days :) I commend you for your determination because not even with WLS is it easy. it HELPS but you still have to apply self control with calorie intake and self discipline to exercise. sigh. Nothing good is every easy right

you said family is on 'stand by'. Does that mean that someone will actually be physically present with you for about 2 weeks? or just on call if you want them to come

I took a week off. I have a desk job, so it wasn’t a big deal to me. I was fine on day 3 of post op.

My surgery was just last Monday 7/16. What I did was take off week before surgery, get affairs in order, etc bills, cleaning, food (liquid) shopping lol. I also did day trips to pool, beach etc because after surgery and it being summer, I know you cannot go to the pool etc just yet until cleared by physician. So for surgery, my surgeon approves up to two weeks off work which would be 10 sick days for me, so in total- 3 weeks. I do also have fridays off in the summer so when I do return to work, I will have 3 weeks left of 3 day weekends.

I planned my surgery so that I could have it during my summer time off (I teach). I'm two weeks out and I probably could survive working but I am still having to focus and work hard to get my fluids and Protein. I'm also pretty easily fatigued at this point.

Also a teacher getting my sleeve in the second

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
