Vegan or not Vegan? That is the question.

Recommended Posts

So, I've been away from this site for a long time. I have being struggling with depression and anxiety. I'm on meds now but I'm also struggling with the fact that I gain weight. I have tried to follow the previous diet my surgeon's office gave me but is no longer working. Their diet consists in yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, eggs and meat. I have seen other people eating nuts and berries and they have been more successful in their journey.

I have talked with my PCM about it (because I'm in the process of switching surgeons to continue my follow-ups with another person) and it suggested vegan style for me. Does anyone in here is vegan or have had done vegan life style before? Is anyone following another type of diet that has been successful? If anyone can help me with some suggestions, I will appreciate it.

Do you have a Crock Pot? I make lentils, black eyed Beans, split peas, barley, pinto beans and black beans in it. All of these are full of Protein and Fiber. I am not vegan yet. I still like meat sometimes. In general I enjoy beans. They work well with my body system. So what I do when the beans are done is a put them in my bowel with onion, salsa, salt and pepper. It is delicious. I also eat tofu. I cook the tofu on the stove in a frying pan.

Thank you very much. I appreciate you sharing it with me. I do have a crockpot. My previous surgeon didn’t allowed me Beans at all. I will definitely try it. Thank you so much

I consulted my surgical PA and NUT about transitioning to vegan and was given the green light, the only restrictions I was given was to stay away from Pasta and breads as much as possible because it is easy to fall into the pattern if eating these foods to become full buy not work on nutrition which you will have to be diligent with as a vegan wls individual

Thank you. I have tried a Pasta made out of black Beans and is good. Do they mean vegan version of pasta?? I have always been a bread person. I have to stay away from it. Thanks for the hint.

They didn't want me to become a lazy vegan (I was one before, just ate mostly carbs and vegan fake meats) they want you to work for your nutrition, make sure you diversify the foods eat, make sure eat leafy greens by the pound, etc.

My diet isn't entirely meat free, but I do eat a lot of fruit, nuts, seeds, Beans, tofu, etc.

My advice: Work with a dietitian who has done bariatric diet follow up for people eating a vegan or vegetarian diet. it's a bit of a special niche...but if you look, you'll find someone good.

Make some calls.

Avoid regular pastas....but give the Protein pastas a try. They're excellent!

Pea Protein + brown rice protein= a complete amino acid

You can add this to all sorts of foods...I put it on veggie Soup to give it some protein.

Tofu

Mycoprotein = Protein from fungus Quorn products

There's a lot of proein in whole grain foods, Beans, insects (if you're brave..lol), nuts, seeds, etc..

If you don't know how to make Chia pudding....google it...it's wonderful.

I appreciate for all your help. You are all amazing people. I will continue my research and will work with a dietician to help with the transition. And regarding the insects, I am a huge coward lmao can’t do it, cannot lol

The cricket powder isn't so bad, I swear all the little legs and antenna are ground up fine! LOL

Still tastes a bit like lawn clippings with some almond thrown in....not bad, really, kinda gritty.

Not for everyone:)

I have no idea. I don’t know if you will find it in a farmer’s market or whole foods 🤔

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
