Am I cheating??? Yes!!!

Recommended Posts

Ok. So I am 3 weeks post op. I decided I didn't want to be on puree anymore and jumped to normal (healthy) food - definitely supplementing with Protein Shakes. I am tolerating everything well. I am just listening to my body and taking it slow but I am definitely eating ahead of schedule by a couple of weeks. Am I a terrible person?

I don’t think you’re a horrible person, nope.

Do we cheat, sure. Heck, I cheated on my pre-op diet. And you know what, I told myself I have no self control. I can’t even follow simple directions for a short time. And do I think that about you, sure.

These docs put things in place for a reason. 3 weeks out, you’re still healing and anything could get caught in staple line. Healthy or not. Would you call your doc now and say you transitioned yourself early? If your answer is no, then you probably shouldn’t do it

I really don’t mean to sound harsh but I beat myself up so much pre-op and I think post-op is crucial. Especially so soon out. Yes other people may be further along than you at this point with the same surgery...I think This is why people transition themselves. Because they see that others can tolerate it

Given that doctors have absolutely no consensus on post surgical diet...

you pay your money and take your chances. Watch your butt and don't go crazy.

The best answer is....stick to your program flawlessly.

The realistic answer? Do your best not to be stupid.

Well.....my Doctor who is in the top 5% of bariatric surgeons in the U.S. didn't even have me do a pureed diet. I was drinking full liquids right after surgery for one week. Which included Jell-O, pudding and sugar free popsicles. I am now 12 days out eating a soft diet.
Every Doctor is different and it doesn't mean something is going to go wrong. I trust mine completely.

That's the same diet I had, but...cheating kind of means short cuts. I simply suggested if a problem does occur, why pretend not to know a possible reason...

I was put on soft Protein (shredded chicken, soft fish) at three weeks. All programs are different. I would say just be careful with portions, keep it below 3 oz.

Don’t make excuses and cut corners. That’s how I gained weight in the first place, and I wouldn’t risk it again. You’re only cheating yourself

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
