So I had my surgery last Wednesday (7/10/18). I've been able to keep everything down and I'm not nauseous but when ever I drink just the littlest bit of something the top of my stomach hurts and it feels stuck in my chest. Does anybody else have this problemand if so do you have solutions? I'm going to the doctors Thursday but my doctor doesn't have the best bed side manners so I thought I might just check here first.

Your profile doesn't say what surgery you had, but, try to adjust the temps of your liquids to see if that helps, most times it's just staple line irritation due to the surgery. Lots of folks find they have a better time tolerating warmer fluids, others colder. Just have to experiment to find out what temp suits you best. But being this close to your surgery, I wouldn't worry too much about it right now, just adjust to find what works better for you and focus on your healing!
Congrats and good luck!

We are surgery buddies. I had my procedure the same day. I am experiencing the same issues. If I eat popsicles it doesn't give me that awful pain, but if I sip Water or my Protein Shakes I get that tightness like I swallowed nothing but air. I see my doctor on Thursday and hopefully will get some help as to what I can do or expect and share what I have learned.

Thanks for the advice. I had a vsg and I've been so worried about my intake of fluids so I don't end up back in the hospital that I didn't get that the pain was when I was drinking till yesterday.

Yes that's the exact same things going on here. Hopefully it goes away after a while because it's awful and makes me not wanna drink anything. Congrats on your journey surgery buddy. [emoji4]

Mee too, not feeling so hot! Had surgery July 13th and I can only get like 3 oz in every hour or more and I have this pain by my left side the hurts ...
Yeah I had never had any surgery before so this has been all new to me. Today is the first day I woke up and haven't felt like crap. Lol my pain is fine except my right side by one of the incisions it feels like there is something cramping or Fluid is moving around under there. May just be gas not sure but once I go to the doctor I'm sure they will know.

Had my surgery on Thursday 7/12. I have the same feeling but only if I sip to much. I thought it was displacement of air in the belly that was causing the pain. I wind up stretching my neck looking upwards and taking a long deep breath in and another out. Usually at some point I'll either feel/hear bubbles of air releasing or I burp.

Also happens sometimes when I bend or twist a certain way but do the same thing with the same outcome.

I was taking sips out of a one ounce medicine cup which would last five sips per cup. I tried leaning my head back to let it slide down my throat and the pain still occurs. I'm not sure what to do next or what is possibly causing this other than I do have a hiatial hernia.

Just sip normally or try smaller sips. If you feel the pain then lean your head back. It will still hurt but hopefully you will feel it pass. It doesn't happen all the time, sometimes it feels like it just moves back into my belly. Like I said it will still hurt but in my case it's either gotten better or I've just become accustomed to it? Best of luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
