My surgery is in 3 months

Recommended Posts

Okay so I am having a really hard time. My surgery is in 3 months but I am having a difficult time choosing the right foods to eat. I used to go out EVERYDAY with my coworkers to get lunch (burgers and fries, burritos and tacos, doughnuts, anything unhealthy I would be going there and buying lunch. So now that I have to stop and choose the right food choices to eat, I am finding it so difficult when I see them leave to go get lunch and I am drinking a Protein Shake or any other type of Meal Replacement. Can anyone give me advice on how to get through this "hunger phase"? Motivation to just stick through this process.

Hi, I understand how you feel over the last 6 months I struggled. It depends your diet that you're on. Are you on 20 carbs a day? You might can have lean meat and vegetables for lunch and dinner but Breakfast have your Protein Shake for snack sugar free Jello. Sometimes you can go out with your coworkers. If you get a burger don't eat no bread. That's what I was supposed to be on lol I got off track sometimes practice make perfect. I made it through you can too. Best wishes on your weight loss journey!

Sooo I’m a big fan of chik fil a their nuggets are on plan for me and I can get a large Water for free and their fruit is fantastic. Also learn to modify food and be picky get creative. Go to a sub shop and get an order of meatballs with cheese and sauce get a large salad with grilled chicken on top I like ceaser my self ummmm ask for meatloaf at family restaurants and sub out the potatoes with broccoli food isn’t something to be avoided and honestly you’re not gonna be able to live on Protein Shakes for all of eternity so go venture out

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
