Ok, this may be hilarious and I apparently didn't learn my lesson the first time I did this several years ago, BUT.....

I stocked up on a bunch of "sugar free" hard candies and ate about 8 pieces in one sitting. I was like, "No biggie, it's less than 100 calories, right?". That's when the rumbling started, very low in the guts. They seemed to echo like a humpback whale in heat, starting very softly, but constant, ever increasing until they were able to be heard from across the room.

The look that my wife and kids gave me was not nearly as priceless as the look I gave them as I started the 10 yard dash to the bathroom. I won't go into the rest, but I recall a scene from Dumb and Dumber when Lloyd got back at Harry for stealing his date by dumping Turbolax 3000 in his coffee.... It was just as violent.

There's no dignity coming out of the bathroom afterwards, I tell you, but I should have remembered what sugar alcohols do to me when I over-indulge... That is a lesson I am not going to forget again, I hope....OMG 💩💩💩

Oh Jobber, the memory you brought back. Shortly after being diagnosed with DM#2, Late Lamented invested in a biggish bag of Haribo sugar free Bears, when I told him " Honey, you really don't need THOSE!" I was informed it was His Sweet Tooth and he would handle it as he saw fit. Well both my Grandfather here in Central Ohio and his from the Netherlands had the same basic saying " Them who don't listen, got to feel!" So in went the hand, it came out out full of those critters and into his gaping maw. 45 minutes later the tsunami hit! PraiseGod I was not in his pathway or I would have had Size 15 footprints all the over my poor self! And it went well on and on until he produced enough fertilizer to send to the nearest floral garden. Oh and moan and curse and turn the very air blue! He was the saddest 330 pound man even seen! One of the few Dutch phrases my aunt's in law taught me, told him Oppa said and of course I had to translate because he didn't bother with the language except for a few muttered curses he picked up when his own Daddy said when building their house and hit a thumb or two.
Best result: next thing I told him wasn't on a diabetic diet,he believed me. Gave a wide shoulder to sugar free candies from them on and didn't hear much more about" sweet teeth"!

De Nada, I'm 73 now, got so many stories and observations, Life is really kind of Funny and you don't have to experience it all, often the watching is 1/2 the fun.

I've had a lot of fun reading all these confessions! They make me feel less guilty about the slip I has last Friday (on my pre-op hybrid liquid diet)... I was feeling like crap because I woke up that morning with a UTI, and wasn't feeling like cooking for my family. My darling husband said he'd pick up dinner and came home with a bucket of chicken, which I more than willingly helped devour.

I cheated with purées as I am driven by texture as someone with food phobias caused by being physically forced to eat as a child. Wasn’t REALLY bad [emoji57]. Had very soft fish and very very lean meat with gravy and chopped up very small then chewed the heck out of it. All went down fine so nut was fine.

Proper cheat was week 4 on solids. Family got pizza take out. I paused eating my salad and had a teeny slice of pizza very slowly and all the while feeling like some alarm should be going off and worried I was going to turn into some pizza crazed monster from that point on. Kinda like Dominoes night of the living dead thing. Actually had the best run after without feeling bad and next take out night I didn’t succumb, probably because I knew I could.

My family and I just spent the afternoon at the movies. We skipped the soda but got a large popcorn and refilled it. I certainty had my share of it!

I haven't really "cheated" in 6 months. Today I didn't have food at home to pack a proper lunch and the Stop and Shop near my office is on strike and I would never cross a picket line. I got home starving and we went out to a steakhouse/lounge and I had a little less than 1/3rd of a short rib with mashed potatoes entree and a Makers Mark on the rocks. No guilt, it was fantastic.

Well I know during the two days before surgery clear liquid diet my aunt on the first day she ate some Mole and a chicken foot. And after she finished it she told our family friend to quickly run to the store and by her the liquid laxative. So that she can EMPTY her stomach bruh 😂. She also drank a Premier Protein vanilla drink on Sunday when surgery was on Monday 4/8/19 . She was like look Imah put mad Water now it looks more clear 🤦‍♀️😅😂 well all I can say was that she had the surgery done. I was worried she wasn’t going to get it, since she also chewed on some corn bread and then spit it out before being able to swallow it. She had me stressed for her during this two week semi liquid diet before surgery. Especially because she had to pay out of pocket

9 months post op
It was teacher appreciation day at school. I had a bagel with cream cheese (didn’t finish, but ate quite a bit of it 😬) then went for a walk on my lunch. I got dizzy, sweaty, nauseous, shaky, etc. it was awful!!!!

Ok so here is my cheat ... I’m 8 months out from gastric sleeve and down 96 pounds.. I know I am not supposed to but I’ve had alcohol! Apparently Jim Beam Honey with iced green tea is my drink. I’ve never been a big drinker but.... Now when we go out to dinner (No I don’t drive if drinking)... since I can only have one drink before eating I make it a double for good measure with my green tea. When my food takes awhile then the real problem starts !!! The first drink went down well , I ask for it in a small glass and since I’m never hungry I have a second double Jim Beam Honey with green tea. Once my food arrives I then wait ten minutes and eat my Protein like a good girl! Everyone else is always eating way longer and more than I am. So by the. I’m feeling pretty social and chatty and if we are still there I’ll order a third or when I get home have one more with the spouse! Next thing I know it’s 8pm and I have to go to bed because it all caught up! LOL This will not become a habit, but this just happened the other night so I figured I’d share!

Cheating at this very moment. I have been unable to eat any pureed foods without throwing them back up shortly after. Past two weeks I was getting by on my Protein Drinks that are supposed to supplement me to 60g.

Today I had solid food. I just chewed until it was no longer recognizable as such. So far I haven't lost my meals 😅

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
