So, there I was in Salt Lake City last Friday for my psychology test, third pre-op nutritionist, and psychology interview. (I started the pre, pre-op diet June 29, 2018, and have lost 17.8 pounds so far.) After the interview, I had a ticket to see the comedian, Pablo Francisco, at Wiseguys Comedy club in an SLC suburb. While I was driving from the hospital to the club, I passed several places where I could have eaten but did not stop. At the club, I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich without the buffalo sauce and no french fries. I planned to just eat the meat and watch the show. When my plate arrived, it had fries and I just unconsciously started eating them. By the time I noticed what I was doing, I had eaten half of them. Well, I stopped and started eating the chicken sandwich, bun and all. In between bites (I was practicing to eat slowly), I would sometimes eat another fry, until they were gone. So, I had the intent of eating just the meat and ended up eating all the fries and bun too.

But wait, there's more...

After leaving the club, I was driving north and stopped at a Del Taco and ordered a spicy chicken burrito, a chicken soft taco, a macho (large) fries, and a bottle of Water. A couple of hours after consuming all of that, I needed to stop for gas and a bathroom break. When I came out of the bathroom, I walked past the donut case and bought two chocolate iced long johns. I also got a chocolate milk. For the rest of the way home, I had intestinal cramps (I'm lactose intolerant) and had to stop a couple of times to "relieve" the gas - I was not sure if they would be dry or wet, so I took no chances.

I got right back on the horse on Saturday morning... B)

And that's what makes this a happy ending. Most of us have the "oh, well, I've already blown it" moment . . . and then proceed to lose our ever-lovin'-minds. Glad you were able to just chalk this up to food funerals and move on!

It’s not post-op but pre-op I went to McDonald’s at least twice right after my weigh ins. On day one of the liquid diet I ate two tacos and some white cheddar popcorn. But no cheating since and down 6 lbs.

its very possible that its the level of minerals in the Water. My surgeon explained that our pouches sometimes don't like the "texture" (whatever that's supposed to mean) to plain Water. If you add something, anything to it, its supposed to help. I can even do a little lemon or lime and it goes down OK.

I gagged the day after my surgery on the thumble of water that they start you out on and I have trouble even now at 11 weeks with plain water. I mostly put in SF flavors and like magic I have no trouble swallowing it! My favorite is AW Root Beer flavoring. It goes down smooth and almost too fast.

Shoot, where do I start! Let’s see, we’ll I’m 2 weeks away from being 5 months post op and I can almost eat about anything now (well, very small portions of anything) but when it comes to carbs, i have no problem putting the hurt on them. I had a small cup of ice cream last night. Within a matter of 4 days, I managed to kill a box of Trader Joe’s Double Ginger Snaps. I don’t drink any carbonated drinks but I do drink sweet tea. I can eat bread...well, a slice but my biggest problem is candy. I love it and struggle sometimes with just saying NO! And yet in spite of all of my sinfulness I’m still losing weight. As of today, I’m weighing in at 249lbs. That’s 67 lbs lost since my surgery. When I started this journey back in July of last year, I was 365lbs. So total, that’s 116 lbs in a year. Not to toot my horn, if it wasn’t for working out 3 days a week (max allowed. family trumps exercise😄) is still be pretty big I imagine. Anyway, it’s gym night so, gotta go!

Life Water and Walmart has it's brand of ph mineral enhanced water that are good.

My cheats - I am a month out and I'm too lazy to eat 3 meals it's too much work. So I eat a Premier Protein shake with coffee added to it for Breakfast and lunch. Then I have done fairly well to eat a decent dinner -- then fourth meal time comes right at bedtime. This is when bets are off. Peanut Butter, semi sweet chocolate chips, pop tarts, chocolate candy. I'm not exceeding 900 cals a day but I'm not losing either. The whole you wont be hungry again is bs. I wish I had the bypass. My binge foods are slider foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
