If it makes you feel any better, my GI friend had one of his residents pull all of the research on diet soda for him to review. He told me to make sure I took at least 1500 mg of Calcium a day, and to watch out if it triggered a carb or sugar cravings. Those were is only concerns.

Interesting, I'm only taking 1000mg. Maybe I should boost that up... thanks for the tip!

I tried forced malabsorption and payed the price... Was on the toilet for hours...

I ate cake, pie, pastry for my birthday week and justified it by having salad and naked burgers as the other meals

I can't stand plain Water even though I push for everyone else to drink it

My children are vegan by their fathers' request but I gave them chicken because I was eating some and they were more than happy to have it

Wow, it must be hard to feed your kids differently than you eat. How old are they?

its very possible that its the level of minerals in the Water. My surgeon explained that our pouches sometimes don't like the "texture" (whatever that's supposed to mean) to plain water. If you add something, anything to it, its supposed to help. I can even do a little lemon or lime and it goes down OK.

My pouch needs to chill and have the damn water... I can't always do the fancy stuff

I love this convo! I never had pre-op diet. I also now eat Anything I want , so long it’s counted in my calories. 75% of the time being “ clean” foods. Still haven’t drank alcohol simply because I don’t usually enjoy it- but I smoke pot often... I smile clean dabs from a vape. 1 small Hit and I’m toasted. It does cause major munchies in which I try to control. I don’t drink diet soda because I’m terrified of “ stretching “ my pouch ... afraid to eat and drink more new foods that won’t make me sick- because I’ll crave them all the time. I love Water but also drink tea and coffee. Cream and stevia. Yay.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
