Dropdeadkim 12 Posted July 14, 2018 When were you able to eat a salad? I’m about 7 week post op and I’ve lost 31 pounds (yay) so far but since I’m always on the go I feel like eating a salad when I’m out and about and can’t manage to meal prep would be helpful. Let me know your experiences and when you started eating it. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

goldenbarbie 329 Posted July 14, 2018 I wasn’t able to eat salad till I was 12 months post op. I tried at 7/8 months and threw up instantly. I think it depends on what your surgeon recommends and your body/progress 2 Frustr8 and GreenTealael reacted to this

But I’m wondering about other ones because I don’t get to see them for another 3 months and it’s very hard to reach them on the phone since it’s a hospital in nyc. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

I understand that it's a pain in the a$$ but they are your best bet for when you can advance your diet. Asking here is a good stop-gap measure when you are looking for information, but remember, every case is different. Your team knows your history and can give advice accordingly. Cooked veggies and fruits are less likely to get caught on scar tissue within your digestive system. Small bowel obstructions are not fun (I've had 13 of them since 1995, two requiring surgery to clear). It's not worth the trouble. Don't get me wrong, please - I'm not saying to not ask questions here and look to others for advice. But, speaking from experience, other than me, my doctor and surgeon know me best. I trust them and listen to them. and lettuce is terrible cooked... I've tried (because of my other surgeries, I am not supposed to eat any veggies or fruit raw, nor can I eat any nuts, ever (too much scar tissue in my small intestines) - I truly miss romaine lettuce salads) Edited July 14, 2018 by macadamia 2 Frustr8 and GreenTealael reacted to this
GreenTealael 25,430 Posted July 14, 2018 I started at 6 months post op , which was on plan with my surgical group, and even now I don't actually eat much of the lettuce, despite the kind I get. I still stick to the Protein source first.VSG2017 HW 249 SW 238 CW 169 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

Dropdeadkim 12 Posted July 14, 2018 I just want to clarify that I’m not talking about just a salad made with lettuce. I mean an arugula salad or a spinach salad. I don’t want to eat lettuce I understand that my surgeon team said no to that. 2 1 macadamia, Frustr8 and GreenTealael reacted to this

KimTriesRNY 1,853 Posted July 15, 2018 I was cleared at six weeks as well. I don’t eat as much of the greens as before but I enjoy salads still. I am a RNY patient though, so not sure if that makes a difference. I love eating the salads at Panera if I’m out and about! 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
