Getting Started

Recommended Posts

Hi -

I am considering lap-band surgery, but I am not sure about the cost. I have BC/BS PPO in NY. I don't know where to begin.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions on getting started?

Thanks!

Gilta

You might want to call your insurance company and see what they require. Some want anywhere from 6 months to two years medically managed weight loss. Others want a BMI over 40 with at least one or two co-morbid disabilities. Some don't cover it at all. Check with them then find a doctor that you trust and see how they want to proceed.

Best of luck,

Try going to a free seminar, and call your insurance company make sure they cover weight loss surgery, a lot of the Doctors have insurance specialist that can do all of your paperwork for you

Hi

I have BC/BS in PA that is PPO as well and it is (according to others) one of the easiest insurances to deal with. Mine is covered, completely as well as reconstructive surgery after banding.

I had to laugh as I wrote that topic almost a year ago!

I have since been banded and am down 43lbs so far. My insurance was a breeze luckily!

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
