ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted July 14, 2018 hi BP dudes/dudettes I went to the hospital June 27th to start dialysis. i had surgery "PDK" catheter inserted in my tummy. (Peritoneal Dialysis Catheter) Primary causes for dialysis are high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. I have unwillingly been a member to both clubs these past 20+ years. , i have been off my meds, feeling great 6+ years GOAL sleeve- Unfortunately too much damage had been done to the kidneys I will have daily home treatments 8 hrs a night - getting a new kidney would be terrific welcome to my new life- I'm usually upbeat - today feeling sorry for myself, life can be a bummer kathy 1 1 FluffyChix and Creekimp13 reacted to this

Sosewsue61 3,185 Posted July 14, 2018 Oh Kathy, (((hugs))) so sorry this has happened!!! I hope you feel better with treatment and also that you can get a transplant at some future date. Not much consolation but home treatments sound better than many trips to a dialysis center weekly.... Best wishes.....💖 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
Uterno 41 Posted July 14, 2018 @proudgrammy, I'm just adding my well wishes and positive vibes. I agree with Sosewsue61, home treatment is better than going to a treatment center for sure. My brother was on dialysis for many years, and would often battle infections at his port site. Once he switched to peritoneal and began doing dialysis at home, infection was no longer an issue. I'll keep you (and a new kidney) in my prayers! 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted July 14, 2018 @Sosewsue61 your good thoughts are always appreciated. when i dialysis at home, i have more freedom/independence. in the day/night - i can go to events/travel - its all good /available. @Uterno thanx for your nice wishes. i do worry about possible infection. Can you explain more why i shouldn't be "concerned" you and brothers thoughts/information are appreciated. hope your brother is doing well. transplant in his future too! kathy

Since his home was more contained, he seemed to be less susceptible to bugs. While he managed pretty well for most of the 15 years (!!) he was on dialysis, his underlying health issues were too much and eventually overcame him. He had a multitude of health issues. But he rocked it for 15 years, until election day morning in 2016. I like to think that he checked out because he knew the election result ahead of time. (sorry to get political, hee!). 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
