Hi! I'm new to this forum. My name is Andrea. I'm pre-op and waiting for my insurance to approve surgery. I'm at the impatient stage where I just want to have the surgery and begin my new life! Does anyone have any suggestions or know how to speed up the insurance company? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

you have a better chance of getting a glass of ice in hell than you do in getting the the insurance to speed up.

The process is by design long and tedious. If they can get you to give up by wearing you down they will be money ahead and never ever forget it is always about the money when it comes to insurance.

The only fast way to surgery is self pay. whip out the card drop 18-25k and you can be in the surgery room as soon as the next spot opens.

for the rest of us its just hang in there and stay on top of everything you need to do and do them right away and always follow up that the results of each procedure gets sent to your surgeons office.

You have to follow the procedure for insurance and well as whatever the surgeon has for a program as well. There are no shortcuts to any of this. It will go faster than you think, the time gives you the chance to really examine your relationship with food and for you to make permanent changes - quit drinking pop, start tracking food, macros, and Water, start logging walking or other exercise, etc. Start journaling stressful events and ways to cope without turning to food, it's a marathon and not a sprint anyway. Good luck.

Thank you! I think waiting is the hardest part. I've been preparing for 6 months and now I just want a concrete date. I appreciate the advice though!!

Every insurance company is different. You are at their mercy. The day will come. Try to be patient. Keep us posted.

Like a lot have said you can’t rush them. I don’t know how long you have been waiting for your decision. If it has been more than 14 working days it wouldn’t hurt to call. Some have found out they were approved before the doctors office knew.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
