almost 2 weeks post op and miserable

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery July 2nd 2018 and I have has such a hard time. Should it hurt every time I swallow? Should I have this pain and pressure in my chest and throat? I am supposed to be in the mushy food stage but can barely keep down Water, let alone any type of food. So far, I totally regret this surgery. I am so thirsty and am in pain every day. Anyone else go through this? Does this get better?

You poor thing. I’m Day 3 post op and was vomiting until yesterday. The pain and pressure in your chest is probably trapped air. I had it horribly right after surgery. I would suggest you call your doctors office if

you’re having trouble keeping Water down. It’s essential to keep hydrated. I’m sorry you’re going through this. Please keep us posted. Call the doc.

Thank you so much for your support. I don't know anyone who has had this surgery so I feel so lost. I have contacted my DR almost every day (lucky him ;) ) and he has written me many prescriptions, but nothing has worked. Is it still trapped air this far out from surgery??

Has walking helped to release some of the gas?

No, I have tried everything, it feels like there is a lump in my throat almost all the time.

Yes, this is all normal. It will improve as you heal. It felt like swallowing gravel sometimes and everything felt stuck - that is swelling, that will go down and get better. Hang in there.

Try room temp drinks, warm Decaf tea, or sugar-free popsicles - at this stage fluids trump everything else. Rest, nap, and walking.

Just do Liquid Protein for another week, yes it sucks - try clear Protein Drinks like ready-made blue raspberry Isopure diluted with crystal light lemonade. Good luck.

I had my sleeve on 21 June and Water was an issue. Try cold water it goes easily compared to normal temp.

Pain and pressure....boil cummin seed in water and have it warm.....hope it helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
