I had vsg 4 days ago. I’m glad it’s done and over with.. but now I’m having such bad nausea that I can barely function. I *almost* vomited just now (how is that possible when there’s nothing to vomit)?!

my surgeon gave me zofran and it helps a bit.. but holy ****. This is NO joke. It feels like my stomach is contracting. Is that the gas I’m feeling? I’ve read there’s a short period of “regret” or “what did I do to myself”.. and I’m definitely there right now. I’m generally a super upbeat and positive person. But this has got me waaaaaay down.

I guess I’m just needing some reassurance that this is going to pass and I can actually handle it. I’m so miserable!

Congrats on your surgery and hope your recovery goes well.

Nausea - yes, this is pretty normal. You might ask about a nausea patch. A lot of people got relief with them.

To me, the stomach muscle "contracting" doesn't sound like gas, it sounds like a muscle that just got cut up being mad at you. My surgeon prescribes muscle relaxants for the first month, to let the stomach rest and heal. Are you taking anything like that?

You should be turning the corner soon. Most people feel a lot better by the end of the first week!

@123mollie When I had my VSG in 10/2012, I was slumped over the chair in pain like "what did I get myself into" and "this was a mistake". That is the gas from anesthesia. Walk, walk, walk as much as you can around the house or if your well enough to venture outside and do a lap in your drive way or backyard. You have been though major surgery! Keep telling yourself that! You just need to heal, love! Rest up when you can and take your zofran! You SO got this! :1321_punch_tone2:

The very best advice is the same thing that drove me crazy in the first couple of weeks...
Stay hydrated!
And walk (I had that one down). :)
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
