Norm13 2 Posted July 12, 2018 Hi! Today I am two weeks post-op. I did great the first week on liquids and was doing well on pureed until a couple of days ago. I have been nauseous for a couple days and yesterday I couldn't hold it in any longer and I vomited - although, there was nothing really there and there was just a lot of gagging and dry heaving. Today, I woke up feeling nauseous and I haven't eaten because I feel so crumby. I am getting plenty of Water, gatorade and Protein Shake but there is a lack of Protein. I'm almost scared to eat now that I have thrown up. I know everyone's bodies are different but I just want an overall opinion. Is this normal two weeks out? Will the nausea go away? Is this something I should call the dr. about or wait another day or two to see if it passes?
Matt Z 4,139 Posted July 12, 2018 Totally normal this soon after surgery, and the vomiting can actually make the nausea worse due to potential swelling caused by irritation. Typically people get better between the 2nd and 3rd weeks from what I've seen around the boards. But when in doubt, call your PCP / Surgical team and pose the question to them. domi 237 Posted July 12, 2018 i did the same thing. My doctor had me drinking chicken broth instead of Protein Shakes until the nausea passed. Then he switched me to a bariatric Protein Shake. It was easier on my system and I was able to keep it down without nausea. Check with your surgeon and see what he says.
