I had a band over bypass surgery 18 days ago and I am experiencing some serious pain when bending over, standing up fom seated position or sitting myself down. All is fine when sat or standing.

I have two palpable lumps under the skin on my tummy. One above my belly button which is the port I assume and the other is just below my left ribs. This is about the size and shape of a large egg. This is where the pain is. Well deeper inside/under the lump.

I'm starting to worry that something is wrong as the pain is worsening rather than getting better.

The trouble is I had my surgery in Belgium and live in England. I've tried emailing my contact (nurse) and he doesn't seem to appreciate how much pain I'm in.

Any advice? Anyone experienced anything simlar?

I do have a bariatric team in England that did my bypass but they are likely to be funny with me for having the band privately, won't they? Although my surgeon did suggest that he could do this surgery for me privately at my last annual (when he explained that he had not made my pouch small enough but couldn't rectify it on the nhs).

I’m guessing the big one under your ribs is the port. That’s exactly where mine was and exactly the size. If so, you will forget all about it in no time (unless someone jabs you, you run into something, etc.).
If that’s not your port, I have no clue!

Thank you for your answer Screwballski, but can I ask if you had the pain I've described? And was your surgery band on bypass? X

My lap band surgery was almost 12 years ago. It was nearly pain free. I was playing with my then 8 year old on the floor within a day or so. But, I always bounce back right away from all of my surgeries. I’m not a great benchmark. I’m very, very fortunate. My band was not over bypass. Just straight-up lap band on regular stomach. I actually just got it removed and was revised to a sleeve in May.
I wish you the very best. Please consider seeing the local surgeon you didn’t choose, the one who worked with you before. I think they will be more concerned with making sure you are okay than some lost business.
And update here. I’m concerned about your pain level.

I’m 4 weeks out from VSG and had a similar lump under my largest incision. It was very painful. Felt like i was being ripped in half whenever i changed position in bed, got up or sat down. I was worried that it was a seroma or a port hernia. I went to the ER where they did a bunch of imaging. Turns out everything was fine. No hernia or Fluid pockets. When I followed up with my surgeon a couple days later, she told me the lump is completely normal and it’s just tissue inflammation from the healing process. She said it could take up to a year for the lump to smooth out but the pain would diminish soon. She was right. The pain is practically gone now. The lump isn’t as pronounced as before so it’s making progress.

The pain meds I was sent home with got me through the painful part. Walking did too.

I hope your situation is as harmless as mine was.

Thanks again for your replies Screwballski and TeeJay84.
My pain threshold is usually pretty good and in fact I didn't take anytime off of work for this surgery (which I guess may have slowed down recovery?).
But Teejay84 that has really desire me, thanks. I've got a followup/first fill on 27th. But I don't feel I need to go to the ER now before hand

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
