Welcome! I'm pretty new here as well! Preparing for my surgery that I'm hoping will be early fall! Sounds like you're doing fabulous to get through Week 1 of the pre-op diet with your humor intact! :) Just close your eyes and think where you'll be in 1 month, 6 months, a year! Totally worth a few weeks of liquids!

You can do it JSwizzle, and in just a week you will be telling all of us how smooth and quick it really was. Dread and fear are 2 cripplers, don't let them into your life. Deep breaths in, now blow out slowly and smoothly, let yourself relax and things will,go by until time.😛😁😛

Prepare your sleeping arrangements for after your surgery. The incisions will be a bit painful for up to a week whenever you bend at your stomach /abdomen. You can lessen this by pressing a pillow against your stomach whenever you sit or stand.

But, it can be a bit painful getting in and out of bed. Plan on using a recliner to sleep in. If you do not have one, arrange the space around your bed so you can lay down the easiest without having to bend.

Thank you so much! I’ve actually never had surgery in my whole life, so it’s a big deal :)
When I had my bypass on June 28th it was the very first surgery I had ever had in life. Indeed a big deal! But you will get through it. You’ve got this! Congrats!

My sleeve in 2 weeks will be my first surgery as well. My fear is of being put under. But it's gonna be so worth it!

Congrats and I wish you all of the best! Being put under isn’t bad. Surgery day I was in the OR laughing and having a jolly time with the nurses and then I hear “it’s time to wake up” never knew I was put under, didn’t know anything had happened to me at all until I shifted and felt soreness and then looked in my gown and saw bandages. You will be fine 😉

in the pat 5 years I have been put to sleep 6 or 7,times, at no time did it come close to the kind of "put to sleep: unwanted animals receive. Indeed it is just as relaxed as the, other posters said, be glad,we are not, back in the Dark Age of ether. Ooh you got SO SICK and you stayed that way for several days. I remember my,poor mama worrying I would tear out my tonsillectomy stitches with as many, pukings I had. And everything is so much better now. Yes you will do fine, I do believe this.😛

@heyprofessor I stocked up on Bone Broth and peach Jell-O before my surgery. (Peach is the only flavor I can tolerate).

I still have a lot of it left. Fortunately, the bone broth is in that shelf-stable packaging, so it's fine sitting around.

Now that I'm almost one-month post-op, I realize that I bought too much bone broth and Jell-O. It's hard to even look at the stuff now. Ick.

I was very calm on the day of my surgery. I actually looked forward to being put under. The anesthesia used nowadays doesn't make a person nauseous or sick as it did in days past. I actually play a game when they put the mask over my nose and mouth in the operating room. I tell myself that I have amazing super-duper superpowers and that no gas or whatever can knock me out. I AM SUPERWOMAN!! Of course, you fall asleep without even realizing it. It's unbelievably fast. Instantaneous. You are barely able to finish counting to even five. And when you wake up, you're in recovery .... wondering what happened and disappointed that you have supercrappy superpowers.

If you can tolerate the IV being put in your arm, that's the worst part. Truly. The anesthesia is nothing. The operation is nothing. You'll be fine. Believe me.

Your surgery day is a day for you to Celebrate. Take photos. You'll regret it if you don't.

Yes. Agreed. The worst part was getting he IV put in. They put the mask Over my face and I was out before I knew it. I woke up in recovery. It all seemed to happen in a blink. All went well. Minimal pain. Waiting for swallow study then I begin drinking.

Great advice!! I finally got a wedge pillow that help, after a week in the recliner. It takes time, but each day is better!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
