I was wondering how everyone approaches their partying/vacations? I was told I could have a sampling of anything I wanted while on vacation, just follow the import rules ( Protein first, 64 oz hydration, 30-30-30, no grazing, etc) and when I get back I resume my plan strictly. What rules were you given about partying / vacationing ? Does your program even address this subject ? Do you feel like it's helpful or sabotaging either way?

I'm about to go on vacation in about 10 days and having spoken to my nutritionists they had mentioned I should try to stick to my diet plan in that I should maintain a schedule. You won't be able to maintain the same controlled foods the way you do at home but you should still be able to stay within guidelines. For instance, there is a great burger joint that I love where I am going so i will have something there for sure, but instead of 2 patties with extra cheese and bread Buns I will have 1 patty wrapped in lettuce with the onions and tomatoes and most likely make 2 or 3 meals out of it. The burger they use there is extra lean so it should be fine. I may not get my grilled chicken, shrimp or salmon that I eat at home but I can get good lean cuts of lunch meats and salad and hummus and so on. I will be taking some of my food cups that are 4 oz in size so that I maintain my Portion Control and will still eat 5 times a day and make sure to be getting my liquids in and Protein first, all be it in different forms than I might be used to.

My thought is that when you allow yourself to stray too far from the habits you are forming you start on that slippery slope, just a little today is ok, tomorrow just a little more is ok and all of a sudden you are way far from your regular routine and then you have problems. but hey just my 2 cents.

I may get yelled at by the food police but we are going on vacation in two weeks too, and I plan to enjoy it. If my family goes out for a burger or Mexican food, I will have some too. I might even have a small drink or two. I will also be walking a ton, so it will probably all cancel each other out. I eat pretty healthy for the most part and foods don't trigger me to continue eating, so that I my plan. Saying the, I will also keep healthy Snacks and foods around, not because I feel like I have to diet, but it's because what my family is used to now.

My diet has 75 discretionary calories per day that I can use on whatever naughty thing I want. I can use them daily or bank them. If I were going on vacation, I'd bank them for a couple of weeks:)

I'd try to stick to my 1200 calories a day, but wouldn't sweat it too much.

Meh....ya gotta live. It's good for your metabolism to get a shake up sometimes.

Back home...I'd get right back on the wagon. :)

I'm definitely in the relaxed category when it comes to vacations.

Enjoying the local food is a huge part of my desire and enjoyment of international travel. There is no way I'm going to torture myself and deprive myself of food that is part of the experience and culture. I will eat whatever I want, and also drink. I will though log everything and make sure I take my supplements and meet my Protein goals.

I only get a few weeks of vacation a year. So going off the rails is not going to do any long term damage to my weight loss. I also have a lot of restriction, so I will be consuming far far less than I would have been able to pre WLS. I'm not going to consult my surgeon or NUT because I don't think I need their permission.

I fluctuated between rigid and relaxed , I'll stay away from rice bread and Pasta like its possessed but I'll have pastry. I will always eat Protein and vegetable sources first but if it's really hot out and I'm walking a lot I don't mind drinking after eating if it's only been 25 mins...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
