mckenzie 66 Posted July 6, 2018 I have been seeing people talk about meeting Protein goals but my surgeon told me not to even worry about protein and just to focus on Water. He did say I could have a Protein Shake if I felt hungry but I haven’t. Has anyone else’s doctor told them that? 1 Orchids&Dragons reacted to this

But a severe lack of protein can not only force your body to use it's own protein (ie muscle) as fuel, it also impacts the potential "Hair loss" issues. You can find yourself some "protein water" or other "clear protein" to ensure you get both your Water and Proteins at the same time. Isopure Zero Carb RTD drinks are quite good at this. Not everyone likes the flavors, but... 20+ oz of "water" and like 20 grams of protein. It's worth looking into. This way you aren't "Worrying" about protein, you just happen to be getting it alongside your water. So it's a win win. 1 BostonWLKC reacted to this

I just know I can’t do any of the milky Protein Shakes because they hurt so hopefully those will be better. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

The Isopure Zero Carb RTD drinks were my staple the first 2-3 weeks. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted July 6, 2018 The advice we were given was based very much on tolerance Hydration was the first priority, of course, but as soon as we could tolerate Protein Shakes or Protein Water, we were encouraged to drink them alternating with our water. Starting on day two after surgery, I was told to alternate drinking 4 ounces of water or other clear fluids in one hour, and 4 ounces of Protein Drink the next hour. I was generally awake 18 hours per day. So starting on day two...I got 36 ounces of clear fluids each day AND 36 ounces of shake each day (3 whole Premier Protein shakes..,,,90g protein) 72 ounces of Fluid each day for the first week. I have the charts they made me keep to prove it. And we were told not to drink more than one ounce every 15 minutes....which I carefully measured. That first week....was tedious. I had a timer set every 15 minutes to remind me to drink my next ounce. (in ten tiny sips) My entire JOB for the day consisted of drinking a million little timed cups of fluid, going for a little walk every hour and blowing into my spirometer. After following protocol for that first miserable week, though? WOW, did it get easier to drink! Week two was much easier, and it kept getting better from there. My program did a VERY regimented first week....but I think it provided excellent healing, hydration, and nutrition. I felt terrific. Got incredibly hungry, though....was definitely ready to start moving up the food chain:) 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

Got incredibly hungry, though....was definitely ready to start moving up the food chain:) It’s so weird to me because I’ve had no issues with my water intake. The day I had surgery after they woke me up I drank 6 water bottles. It’s gotten a little more difficult the 2nd and 3rd days but it’s not too bad. I just don’t get a full feeling when I drink liquids. Makes me wonder what’s wrong that I’m not feeling a restriction
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted July 6, 2018 I dunno if anyone wants to see this...but this is how anal my group is. LOL! We had to document everything. And we were forbidden from drinking more than one ounce every 15 minutes. Have to say, though....I had an insanely easy recovery. Zero nausea. I have never vomited since surgery. All food advancements went smoothly. Could be luck, or maybe this protocol is a good thing? Hell if I know:) (The X's are Clear Liquids like Jello, Water, tea, Decaf, Powerade zero....and the P's are Premier Protein) 1 2 stacy71, Screwballski and Frustr8 reacted to this

Great tips👍
