Caleblj250 0 Posted July 6, 2018 Hi everyone. I had my sleeve surgery on June 25th. I was out of the hospital 8 hours after surgery. Never experienced any vomiting or pain from the incisions. I did have gas pains till 3 or 4 days post op. Now, 10 days later, I feel pretty close to normal. Incisions are almost completely healed, I can sleep in any position I want, and Water intake has become much easier. Still not sure I'm getting 64oz but I would say pretty close. Im probably averaging between 400 and 550 calories a day. I lost 12 pounds in the first 6 days after. I weighed myself this morning and was the exact same as I was 6 days after. Yes, it's a little discouraging but I know my body is going through a lot of changes and stalls are normal. I hope it picks back up soon though. The past couple days though, my hunger has been calling... literally. People around me can hear my stomach growl. I get so hungry so quickly that I start to feel nauseous and get a headache. If I drink water it seems that it gets worse. I can fend it off with some sugar free Jello but all these liquids are really getting old. My doctor wants me on liquids for at least 21 days post op. Protein Shakes, broth, popsicles and jello. I was never a big sweet eater to begin with. Sure I liked to have desert after dinner, but just sweets alone, no thanks. Now pretty much everything I'm allowed to have is sweet in flavor. Broth is the only savory thing and even that has to be low sodium which may as well be the chicken or cows bath water. The Protein shakes tasted fine in the beginning but now I have to choke them down. I know a lot of doctors have different programs they put their patients on, so I did some research and made a decision to try something else. Yesterday, I got some lowfat low sodium lentil Soup, blended it down and strained it, and thinned it with a little of the chicken bath water. I had about 1/4 - 1/2 cup and omg it was amazing. Yeah it would have been better with more salt and fat but compared to what I had been consuming... it was heaven. I ate it slow and my body tolerated it fine. I feel kinda bad for doing it but it still doesn't seem like a bad choice. What do you guys think? My first post op appointment is July 11th. Hopefully the will let me go to pureed foods and fish at that point.
domi 237 Posted July 6, 2018 You’re probably fine. I puréed vegetable Soup and added unflavored Protein Powder. I also did the same with Tomato Soup. You are probably just hungry for flavor.
Born in Missouri 1,264 Posted July 6, 2018 I know what you're going through because I'm going through it, too. I think you're on the right track. Lentils are a common cooking ingredient in my household. Try adding some dried or fresh mint, dillweed, or basil to your Soup next time. Herbs enhance flavor without the need for salt or fat. A splash of lemon juice is nice, too, if you can tolerate it. Instead of buying ready-made soup, get some Bone Broth or low-sodium broth and make your own soup using cooked and pureed yellow-split peas or carrots or a combination of veggies or legumes... use your imagination! And don't forget to experiment with some herbs.
