To unfill or not unfill that is the question.

Recommended Posts

I was banded 7-27-07 and have lost 37 pounds...lots of sevens.

I have had two fills. The last one was Sept 18. Since then I can eat very little and eat mostly Soups and pro shakes. I can get chips, carmel popcorn, cheese puffs, and chocolate. I do not eat those frequently but do have them when I want to eat, I am rarely hungry. I tried to have cottage cheese, two teaspoons, and I got a golfball and slimed all over. Over the weekend, I ate 3 baby carrots with dip and same thing. I am slightly frustrated because I thought I would be able to eat all foods (except breads) just in smaller amounts, if they were chewed up real good. Do I need an unfill/ Will this loosen up eventually? I hate to spend more money on an unfill if I just keep not eating and it will get looser. on the other hand because I eat very little I over indulge in chocolate with slows the weight loss anyways. What do all of you think?

IMHO - you need to get some taken out - you are too tight which can cause problems in itself - you should be able to eat regular food by now.

You need healthly food not chocolate :D

Good Luck

An inability to eat normal food indicates that you are overfilled.

Thanks for your input. I did contact my fill doc. However the following day after I posted, I was able to to eat chili and hamburer and some chicken. WOW I am going to wait a bit to have some taken out and see how the week goes.. This band is crazy but I love it.

I am in a very similar situation and have been debating the same thing. I know I was too tight in for the first three weeks after my fill becuase someitmes I would have liquid come back up (but never food? ?) Anyway I decided to tuff it out since I wasn't PBing too much and I could eat a little more in the evenings. Now I think I am looseining up on my own because I havn't PBed anything in over a week and liquids are going down pretty good. The band is a tricky thing to get used to but it is always a good idea to talk thing over with the doc. or nurse. (I did). Best of luck.

I wouldn't jump right away to get an unfill. Fills can sometimes be very tricky and vary a lot from one person to the other.

If you can eat chicken for instance, without problems (blockage, PB, etc) than maybe you don't need to unfill. Try to pin point which foods go down well and which don't. You need good solid food and you need to chew, chew and chew some more before you swallow it, and you need to make correct food choices (chocolate and ice creams are a no-no...)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
