Congrats on your surgery and glad that you're over it!

I found purees difficult as well. Forcing foods to be purees that really aren't meant to be was gross.

However, I did great with foods that are meant to be purees. Applesauce, smoothies, Soups like butternut squash or Tomato, etc. There are some really good "smooth" soups in grocery stores now. I like Pacific brand. Just last week I picked up "Roasted Red Pepper & Tomato" and "Cashew Carrot Ginger" soups. They come in 32 oz. cartons, so you get quite a few 4 oz. servings!

Add some Protein Powder to any of those and you have a reasonable puree meal.

I LOVE that soup! If you have a Trader Joe's near you, their "Roasted Red Pepper & Tomato", is just a private label of Pacific. So the same Soup for less money.

Closest one is 21 miles from my house. What else is good there that would make it worth the trip?

Oh, I don't know if there is anything there worth driving 21 miles for.

I buy, the above mentioned Soup, boxed lentil soup, chicken and beef broth, ff greek yogurt, canned chicken (when I was in the soft food stage), various Condiments like whole grain mustard, fish sauce, olive oil, vinegars, hot sauces, marinara sauce (good and super low cal), turkey meatballs, lunch meat, various cheeses (so good!), various "burgers", like mahi , lime chili chicken and masala, soy ginger cod, Kettle Cooked Chicken Soup (refrigerated section), produce like romaine lettuce, cucumbers, shredded cabbage, zucchini, nuts (like flavored pistachios), cheap but decent wine (for guest I like, not love, lol), spiralized carrots (frozen), frozen gyoza (when I get an asian craving), Green Goddess Salad Dressing (refrigerated), chicken sausage. I'm sure tons of other stuff I can't think of right now.

They are actually really good at less healthy food too, for your family. Their Mandarin Orange Chicken is better than any restaurant I've tried, for instance.

In general their products are very high quality for a very good price, while having a lot of interesting and ethnic options.

@sillykitty In Texas, everything is 20 miles away, silly! Thanks for the listing of goodies, I'll check them out the next time I'm on that side of town. I'm already thinking that I could probably eat a meat ball if I covered it in enough marinara to make a Soup out of it ;) Last night my "boys" made pulled pork for dinner. I got brave and tasted a teeny piece, maybe 1/10th of an oz. It was good but I wasn't brave enough to try any more. Just not worth the misery.

Ha ha ... I probably have 5 TJ's within 20 miles! Try to go at an off peak time, when you have sometime to browse. TJ's are notorious for having undersized parking lots and getting uncomfortably crowded. My mom thought she hated TJ's for years, until she retired and could shop in peace!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
