I had 3 Irish coffees and nothing happened

Recommended Posts

On July 3rd I went to my favorite bar and had 3 Irish coffees and nothing happened. I barely caught a buzz. I didnt get sick or get an upset stomach. I am 2 months post op and it was nice to watch the soccor game on the TVs and sip my Irish coffee. Now this does not mean I will do this all the time but now and then it is a nice stress reliever.

Holy moly!! Irish coffees!? I’m surprised you didn’t get sick with all that cream and liquor.

Glad you had fun but wow

I just wonder why? At 3 months out, why would you dump extra, empty calories in your body and take the risk of hurting your progress and healing body?
(It’s rhetorical.)

this forum is for helpful information, not to be lectured and ridiculed. people deal with things in all different ways! maybe next time phrase this in a nicer less hurtful way

You’re reading an awful lot into some very simple questions. I posted what I posted so that apositivelife4me could think about the “whys”.
Any judgement or ridicule is projected by you and not intended by me.
I wrote that it was rhetorical because the answers are not my business or in any way related to my path.
I meant absolutely no harm nor did I wish to engage anything other than some introspective thought.
You read negativity where none was intended. I don’t own your frame of reference.

It’s crazy how different our bodies are. I waited a year or more to have a drink, and I was trashed from two sips. I still get teased for that day lol.
I just converted to bypass on 6/26, so who knows how it will go when I try again in a year or so.

Well, you have a sleeve, so no intestinal changes, curious what you thought was going to happen?

Well I really thought there was a possibility that I might get a slightly upset stomach but no, it did not get that. I didnt even catch a buzz. I dont need to be drinking alcohol and will not be doing that again for a while.

I was aloud to reintroduce alcohol at 3 months postop. I had vodka and SF Red Bull for my first drink. Some people would ridicule me for having carbonated beverage, but it doesn't bother me at all. But, on the same note, I didn't pick something with a lot of calories... I'd be afraid that Irish Coffees would go down too good, if you catch my drift. Things that we too heavily enjoy, seem to be a slippery slope.

Understood. I was told to wait until the 6 month mark to reintroduce alcohols. But, things are different with the bypass (and like every surgeon on the planet!) BUT I did have 2 drinks at this point, maybe a total of 4 -6 oz between the 2 of them. Got drunk quick, but got sober quick too... didn't seem "worth it" really anymore.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
