How long off work/disability?

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I had my sleeve 5/29 and my job approved
Me for 6 weeks of disability. Has anyone been approved for anything longer without major complications? I’ve been so lethargic and tired the past couple of weeks and I’m worried it won’t let up before I have to return to work. I’m getting in all my Protein and fluids and Vitamins daily.

I would think that is plenty of time. I had 3 weeks off. I was tired my first 3 weeks back to work, but I managed it by only doing the bare necessities outside of work those first 3 weeks back to work and of course getting a good night's sleep every night.

I took 2 months for my band. And 2 months for my revision. 2 different jobs, no issues from either with taking the 2 months. The extra 2 weeks of unstressed healing really make an amazing difference.

I was off for 4 weeks - today is my first day back. My biggest issue is that I'm still really weak from not getting in very many calories. Luckily I have a desk job and I've managed to work the whole day. I'm hoping that the more I move at the office, the more energy I'll get...

I had the bypass and was off for 1 1/2 weeks. Was more than enough but it’s a different surgery

I would have gone stir crazy. I worked from home, so technically took no time off. I was back to business travel 3 weeks post op.

I work for myself in a sedentary computer job. If I don't work, then Mama doesn't put food on the table and can't buy her Walden Farms dressings! I started working 3 days after surgery. The end. I was helping prepare dinner for the fam and folding clothes the day I came home from hospital (1 day after surgery).

I had 6 weeks off and felt pretty good on return, it was probably week 5-6 when I consistently started feeling good. Before that I’d be like superman one day and half dead the next :)

Wow. I was told okay to go back to work one week after surgery. But I have a sedentary job. I am taking 1.5 weeks off. I think I will be okay to return then.

I have been off 5 weeks so far; my leave is 6 weeks. I am an O.R. nurse, and the job can be very physical at times. In addition to that, getting fluids and Protein in can be a real challenge when there are no scheduled breaks; you take one when you can. It may be 5-6 hours into my shift depending on what surgery I'm involved in.

It's also hard to predict "bumps in the road" during your recovery. I lost a week or so due to severe swelling/unable to tolerate fluids. Ended up in the ER for fluids. I had seriously low blood pressure by week 3 that caused dizziness, almost passing out a few times. Come to find out, I no longer needed to take my blood pressure medicine!!! :)

Everyone's journey is unique. I personally would have been unable to do my job until week 4 or 5. I plan on enjoying this last week off while I feel great!

Hi Kate! I too am an OR nurse! I had bypass on March 26th! Yes! Getting my fluids in has been a huge struggle at work- I went back after 5weeks and should have taken longer as I was exhausted the first couple of weeks! As you know- most ORs are hurting for nurses- so I guess I bargained before I returned to work as I knew they needed me-I asked my manager and director if I could keep a water bottle in our sub sterile so I can step out occasionally to drink- thankfully they agreed. I’m good if I get 32oz in while at work- I have had to leave work early as was pretty dehydrated and weak- couldn’t even process clearly- the next week got 2liters of fluid( after 6sticks as I was so dehydrated!) but felt so much better! Listen to your body- talk to your supervisors - they are in medical field and hopefully will work with you!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
