Chewable tylenol safe?

Recommended Posts

This might seem stupid, but I'm going to ask it anyway. I'm 4 days post op and was given narcotics. I haven't used them because my pain hasn't warranted it. Instead, I bought children's chewable tylenol and have only had to take it twice since getting home. Just now, I realized that all of my meds are liquid or crushable. Are chewable medications off limits? I feel sort of stupid just assuming they were fine for someone so early in recovery.

They should be fine. Just chew thoroughly.

I took chewable children's tylenol for the first week. It gets expensive considering you have to take like 4 to get an adult dose, but it was worth it for me. I HATE the taste of the liquid.
Had no trouble with it.
Also, my doc said small pills were ok almost immediately post op.

I was about to post and ask about both tylenol and omeprazole...seems like the tylenol answer is above but is anyone taking omeprazole post op? The on call doc said to crush the pill in liquid - has anyone found that a pharmacy can make a suspension (liquid) for you? Or are you swallowing the pill?

I swallowed the pill, right from the start. Didn't have an issue.

Thank you @orchids :)

I should qualify my answer. I had a sleeve. It might be different if you had another procedure.

I took a liquid children's Tylenol for a muscle ache unrelated to surgery. no problems.

I take all kinds of non-liquid pills and capsules (big and small) with my surgeons permission).
According to my surgeon, the pills they DON’T want us swallowing are the heavily coated time release/extended release and/or super dense time/extended release pills. Mostly because they won’t be absorbed and they may be corrosive. Other than that, if it’s not harmful to the stomach, and you can swallow it, you’re good. I have 6 medications on top of supplements, of which I have an additional 7. All of these are swallowed in pill or capsule form. None liquid. Everything per surgeon.

He did, however, prescribe that awful Tylenol w/codeine after surgery. No thanks!

Obviously, check with your Doctor before taking meds.  I’m just relating my info.

Thanks for the responses all. Doc gave me the thumbs up and said it's technically "crushed" since you chewed it :-) I'd rather be cautious.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
