Dorothy_Correz 17 Posted July 1, 2018 I am 11 days post op after gastric sleeve. I am experiencing lots of heartburn. I am taking 2 Nexiums a day for heart burn. Has anyone experienced really bad heartburn after gastric sleeve? How long is this going to last?
Orchids&Dragons 9,047 Posted July 1, 2018 Sadly, it could be your new normal. It's too early to say. At only 11 days post-op, your stomach is still swollen and angry. It could be that as the swelling goes down, you get some relief.
it'sonlythefirststep 141 Posted July 2, 2018 Mine started 3 weeks after surgery and it is a daily thing. I heard from others who have had gastric sleeve that it is one of the side effects.
Letsgetgoing2018 448 Posted July 8, 2018 I am scheduled for sleeve on the 10th. I take Pepcid twice a day right now for gerd. Should I expect it to get worse?
BostonWLKC 807 Posted July 8, 2018 Consider bypass if you have reflux

Yes, unless the GERD is caused by a hernia which they will repair during surgery.

Letsgetgoing2018 448 Posted July 8, 2018 I do not have a hernia.
Orchids&Dragons 9,047 Posted July 8, 2018 Just now, Letsgetgoing2018 said: I do not have a hernia. Then definitely discuss the heartburn with your doc. My doctor is already talking about possibly having to revise my sleeve to bypass because of reflux that came after the surgery.
Letsgetgoing2018 448 Posted July 8, 2018 My heartburn is controlled perfectly with the Pepcid. Do you think it might remain controlled if I stay on it?
