Congratulations! That sounds like a tough couple of days but I'm glad you're home where you can get some rest. I've been home since the day of my surgery but go back to work in a couple of hours. I hope I'm up to it! I'm a little sore but I'm more worried about being tired.

Take care!

The doctor's office told me the doctor likes to do the surgeries on tuesdays and thursdays only and i'm scheduled for Dec. 27th!!!! (my choice - because it's two slow weeks for me at work...sales, yup!) but now what that means is that I will be doing all liquid diet for 10 days prior to this date and it will be right through Christmas! That should be quite a challenge since we have our big family gathering on Xmas Eve! I will have to figure out what to be sipping on all night without anyone noticing I'm not eating - anyone have any ideas? maybe Jello? that might be a little weird because who eats jello at a party! but do I have a choice? The only ones that will know about the surgery is my husband and closest friend. I am not telling anyone else, not my kids, not my parents or sisters & their family. Maybe later I will probably tell them if I start to lose a lot of weight which is why I'm getting banded.

So I'm excited!

Thundandlight,

Wow a full liquid diet for ten days before the surgery?!! That will be hard. That means you'll be on liquids for about a month (counting before and after the band). You are sure to lose ALOT of weight during that time! Maybe you can have some egg nogg (that's kind of thick). Jello sounds good. How about low fat pudding? What are you going to do when everyone sits down to dinner?

I know you can do it, Good Luck!

One of the good things at our family Xmas party is everyone is pretty much everywhere, no one really sits down for long, so i'll have to move around more. I can still be sociable with a glass of Chrystalite, that's what I'll have to bring.

Longhorn, good luck with starting work, It's only been 7 days for you. If you get tired, maybe walking around may make you feel better. Get some extra oxygen, go outside for a few minutes? Drink an extra Protein Drink?

Wow sumz30, I can't imagine flying after surgery and all that walking at the airport. Glad to hear you're home now so you can rest - I guess we do what we need to do.

I just got banded on NOvember 2! SUMZ, I know what you mean about flying. I had surgery Friday, stayed in Mexico until Sunday, rode 3 hours to San Diego and stayed at a motel until Monday morning, then travelled by air back to Washington with 1 layover in Salt Lake. THEN I got my car from my sisters and drove my daughter and I back home, 2 hours away. I feel really good today. Didn't think I would! I am about to gnaw off my right arm, tho (I am left-handed).

Thanks for thinking of me! It wasn't a great day! I was pretty tired and felt a little dizzy and queasy a couple of times. Then I stopped at Circuit City on the way to teach a class and locked my keys in my car! By the time my daughter was able to go to my house and pick up my spare key and bring it to me, traffic was a mess and I realized I could not get to my class, which is 45 minutes away, in time so I had to call and cancel. I'm now relaxing and going to bed early, hoping tomorrow will be better!

I'm very sorry to hear you had a tough first day yesterday back at work. You also teach at night? It's strange how things have a way of happening sometimes. It's definately not funny you locked your keys in the car - you must have been so tired waiting, but it forced you to go home and get some rest. That would have been a lot to handle after working all day! I give you a lot of credit for trying. What type of work do you do during the day? I hope you get to sit a lot. I hope things will get better now for you as your week progresses at work and you get more rest at night. Don't overdo it. Going back to work has got to be the tougest thing. Take care.

I tutor math at the same community college where I teach math. I worked five hours with no break and there's a lot of moving from student to student. I tried to stay in the rolling chair but that's not always possible. The class I teach on T-TH is in a town about 45 minutes away. The reason I stopped at Circuit City was to pick up a presenter remote control so that I can advance the slides of my PowerPoint lecture without having to walk back and forth between the front of the classroom and the back, the only place I can plug my laptop into the monitor cable that goes to the presenter. On our regular campuses, all of this stuff is built in and I just pop my flashdrive into the classroom computer but we hold classes at the high school in this town and don't have access to the teacher's computer. Anyway, I thought I was doing a good thing for myself but it didn't turn out to be the case!

I feel much better now and I think I'll be okay tomorrow when I just teach with the breaks in between. My day is from 9:10 to 6:55 so it's a long one but should be doable. :) Thanks again!

Longhorn, how was your second day? I hope you felt better!

Sumz30, congrats on your clothes feeling looser! That is definately an incentive!

Hi, Stevie:

Yesterday was much better! There were a couple of times I felt a tad weak or the pain in my shoulder was bothersome but most of the time I felt normal and almost forgot I had had the surgery! I actually felt better as the day went on.

Thanks for asking!

Kendra

I'm really glad to hear you had a nice day yesterday...and you actually forgot for a while you were just banded, what a good sign! It's good to hear how everyone does going to back to work, since we are mostly all working women! I hope you have a nice day today also. Take care.

Stevie

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
