Great job! You look fabulous. As a point of reference, you lost an entire ME! LOL.

Six months since surgery and I am down 155 lbs. Pretty amazing journey. I have been very fortunate as well to have zero loose skin.

I am currently eating 1800-2000 calories a day and 190+ Protein. I walk 15-20k steps a day which usually translates to 7-10 miles a day. I workout with weights five days a week.

I feel better than I have since I was probably 25. My only suggestions are to get active as soon as you can after surgery and build on it. I started at 3-4K steps a day before building up to the level I am now and I started with relatively light weights (for my size and history of weight lifting as a college football athlete) and high reps before building back up to heavier weights. My point is, you gotta start somewhere. And once you start keep going even when you don’t feel like it because it gets easier and the health benefits are amazing.

The other suggestion is when you hit a stall, up your calories and protein. I hit stalls along the way and instead of decreasing food intake I increased it. I would add 200 calories and 10 grams of protein each time installed and instantly I’d start losing again. It seems counter intuitive, I know. Especially given how all of us, myself included, previously had to cut caloric intake to lose. But before the problem was we were eating too much and needed to cut back. Now the problem is we are eating too little and our body goes into starvation mode and starts fighting the weight loss. I found if I fed it more, it would keep burning away he fat.

Good luck to all and anyone considering this surgery do it!

Your exercise routine is award winning! I’m going to use you as my incentive!! I’m going in for a duodenal switch on Nov. 26th. I have a very painful degenerative disc disease. Gotta get this weight off for good! Good luck for your con’t success!

My hero! I'm speechless, in awe, and completely inspired by you.

Do you still have no loose skin? (If so, not fair, but I'm happy for you.)

Yeah, I still have zero loose skin. Like I said earlier, I don't do anything special aside from using skin so soft lotion everyday after I take a shower and weight lifting/exercise. I also make sure I stay well hydrated which may not sound hard but anyone that has had this surgery knows getting in your fluids is difficult as all get out. I don't know what, if any of that, leads to not having loose skin. It could just be genetic.

Just an update. I am down a total of 188 pounds now. I am at 301. My goal before this all began was 300 but I am amending my goal to 270 because I still have some fat in my stomach I could stand to lose. The rest of my body is pretty firmed up and my wife has been amazed at how quickly I have gotten into shape.

It is funny how at the time I was at my heaviest I thought I was fine. I never thought I was “that big” and thought I felt good. Looking back at photos I don’t know how I ever convinced myself of that.

Onward and downward I say! As far as the scale goes anyway. :)

Your story is such an encouragement to me. I started my journey in June at 451, I last weighed in at my program at 349. Now I’m waiting on insurance to approve my sleeve procedure. Got a denial- talk about a gut punch. Feeling down for the first time since I started, finding this tonight gives me encouragement to stay the course. Going to start strength training after the surgery, hope it helps with the loose skin. Keep up the great work!

It's all relative!

Personally I think you looked great at both weights - like you have a big, brawny build. It is amazing how fast you've gotten into shape though, you're going to be giving Jason Momoa a run for his money! 😝

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
