What is a foamie? Sounds like I hope to never have one...

HA.... literally what it sounds like. Isnt a throw up, just a foamie regurgitation of sorts. No food, just foamie saliva. Gross but not painful

Hi All, I also did have a few second thoughts but that was not really an option because my health decided for me that i would be having the surgery. Ok, it is not that bad! I am 9 weeks post op and I do not get hungry but I do get bored by what I am allowed to eat, but not a bad problem to have. From what I have heard and read it gets better, but you do have to have discipline. Think about the good that will be and not what you will miss.

Thank you Kevin! I am re-focusing on the positives now as much as possible. Once in a while fears creep in - I am sure you remember. :)

I 100% remember the night before surgery and driving to Pittsburgh wondering if I made the correct choice, but I really never thought it would end wrong or badly. You have to remember why you are doing this surgery and yes it will be a life changer but if you have went this far you only have to cross the finish line. Now that being said I have had my freak out moments that no one told me about, like drinking Water for the first time and gagging but you keep going and one day you look at yourself in the mirror and wonder who is that person looking back at me. It is all good as long as you get your head to cooperate with the program.

I agree with everyone above and will say I eat whatever I want in MODERATION minus Carbonated beverages of course. It’s normal to be concerned but let it go based on the excellent experiences shared. You will be just fine and it’s worth it!

Hi Megan.

I'm a week out from the procedure. I was in the same mindset, my food bucket list was pretty insane. Peking duck, pork belly, a pork knuckle, a massive eye fillet, Korean Ziggle, the list goes on. I got..... gluttonous.

In the end it was not necessary. I'm yet to come across something I can't enjoy in monderstion, acknowledging I'm in free fluids still - but working through my menu plans with my nutritionist I'm yet to reach something that can't be accommodated in some fashion during my transition to new textures. My lactose intolerance didn't even worsen. I even had a Kombucha today, the light carbonation was fine.

So, im maybe not a great long term credible opinion yet but don't despair now. Nor when you make up groggy and painful, willing yourself to sip from a 1oz cup of Water. Any food compromises you do end up making will be more than worth it, im so certain of it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
