November 2018 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I know it’s early, but I figured I’d make a spot in this big Bariatric world for those of us who are getting surgery done in November.

:1308_wave_tone4:. Currently scheduled for August but I'm behind on my requirements (nutritionist visits) so I'm hoping to have it rescheduled for November, during my next break from school. *fingers crossed*

Sorry about not being able to get your surgery done until August, but it’s great to see another November member, welcome!

I will probably land in November as well, maybe late October. I was supposed to have my psych eval in the morning, but they fumbled the ball with some of mu insurance stuff, so I am, unfortunately, looking at another week or so before I can have it. i have my second check in this month and my final in September. My sleep apnea appt. is this month as well. It's coming slowly, but surely. It's a pleasure to be here!

I'm hoping to be able to get my sleeve in November. My last check-in with my surgeon will be at the end of October, so it'll all depend on how soon insurance will get back to me.

So I have good and bad news, bad news is I won’t be able to stay in the group with you guys and gals anymore. Good news, because my date was scheduled for August 29th, Doc moved my date up because I reached my pre-surgery weight loss goal. Y’all enjoy the group!

I all the stars align and BCBS approves me for the sleeve, i'm praying for a November surgery date. Prayers please. I'm jumping through all the necessary hoops for someone with a 36 bmi and not an automatic approval. I'm halfway through my dietitian visits and waiting for all my test to get cardiac clearance. I hope one day soon, i can come back to this thread and share in the excitement with ya'll!

My last meeting with the PA and nutritionist (my third of four), she said if I can lose 20 pounds between now and then, I can have my surgery the week of Thanksgiving. More specifically, if I'm down 8 pounds by our next meeting (9/5), she'll actually schedule it.

Since the surgeon said in June I only had to get to "15 pounds down [from SW] by 9/5" (I'm ahead of schedule for that!), and in July the PA said "if you lose 6 more pounds by our August meeting we'll schedule your surgery in September" (and I did, and they didn't--the surgeon had changed his mind and decided to stick with his initial "lose 10% before the surgery" demand), I'm trying not to hold my breath too hard.

But I'm holding up my end of the deal, anyway. I've started a low-fat ketogenic diet (I'm following the Ideal Protein protocol, but with alternative products... partially because it's less expensive than doing it for real, but mostly because I hated going into their offices and being weighed every week; I have my own scale, and lots of IP's "nutritionists" are just chiropractors, anyway). So far it's probably all Water weight that'll come back pretty much immediately as soon as I drink some fruit juice, but I'm down 5 pounds this week. It's a low-cal enough diet that I'll be able to lose a real 1.5-2.5 pounds per week for the next couple of months (more early on, less as I get closer to November), which should guarantee my spot in November.

I'm really anxious, though, because like I said, it'll take very little carbohydrate for me to gain back the water weight. I'm worried that the liquid diet, that last week, might contain too many carbs, and the surgeon won't listen to me and will throw me out for "gaining weight" when I didn't, really. I'm also worried that the anesthesiologist will refuse to work with me if I'm in ketosis at the time of surgery--it's not that different, but it's different enough that they have to watch some extra gauges, as I understand it. So, I have a few questions for my next appointment, I guess!

Anyway, hi, other hopefully-November folks!

I may fall here - depends on insurance approval. Shooting for late November/early December. Feel like I’m in the very beginnjng. On week 2 of my supervised diet. It’s been hard. Next week will be much harder as I “flip” to Protein Drinks only for a week then “flip” back again for 2 weeks for Protein, low-fat, low-carb.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
