I have sleep apnea and use a C-pap. I've been using it for about 3 years. I remember when I was visited by a respiratory therapist in my home. The visit was to determine which C-pap setup would work best for me ... a full mask, nose mask only, etc.

I was required to use it every night for a month and for a minimum of 4 hours per night, if I'm not mistaken. I was told that my insurance company wanted to be sure that I was committed to wearing it because the machine and supplies are costly. (The machine was in communication with a satellite so it wasn't just my word that I was using it.)

The benefits of a C-pap are well-documented. Did your sleep study technician or your doctor share with you how many times you stopped breathing in an hour? I think for me it was 25 times per hour.

Most hospitals will ask that you bring your C-pap with you for your hospital stay. True story: whoever changed my bedding for the day, accidentally scooped up my nose-mask and attachments and threw them into the laundry. A well-meaning nurse "dumpster-dived" for it, but it was too soiled to use. I then had to "fight" to get the thing replaced. The hospital's so-called patient advocate (I privately call her the "hospital advocate") gave me the runaround, so I called the CEO's office. His secretary, on the job for only 3 days, contacted my C-pap supplies carrier and paid for a replacement within 24 hours. Always contact the person with the authority and the money.

hour, scary serious. I am finishing up a mandated 30 day electronic compliance , 4+ hours per 24. I averaged 6×. it gets faxed to Columbus. to,my bariatric program. Jessica b, my case manager delivers the faxes to Certified Nurse Practioner Valerie, my surgeon Dr Needleman's right hand woman. And then something occult, happens. They consult a voodoo priestesd, play cards, go fishing, nobody really knows. Either Valerie calls 7/6 or Jessica calls 7/9. because she will be on vacation until, then. And if i,understand i receive my surgery date.
I probably, won't be able b to discard Uncle Snuffly, my,father also had apnea.

Zero issues with my CPAP, I've had one for almost 10 years now. For anyone that "hates" it... you should look into another style/type of mask and I swear by hose management! I've got a beard too so my choices for mask are greatly reduced. If you haven't, check out CPAP.com for your needs. I've got particular filters, humidification, hose management, mask cushions, etc. There are many ways to make the CPAP (or APAP or BiPAP) so much more comfortable! At this point, I really can't sleep without it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
