When am I going to start feeling better?!

Recommended Posts

So I was sleeved on 06/07/18 and this recovery has been hell. I expected it to be difficult but I didn’t anticipate frequent nausea and vomiting. I didn’t expect it to sometimes be uncomfortable when I drink Water or eat Soup. I feel like I’ve tried everything. I’ve tried cold drinks, room temperature drinks, Hot Drinks. sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello. Nothing is working for me. I feel like a lot of
things get stuck between my throat and chest and doesn’t make it to my stomach often. I have an appointment with a Gastroenterologist next week but I’d like to know if anyone has felt this horrible during recovery and when they started to feel better. My boyfriend’s father had his surgery the day before mine and he hasn’t had any issues whatsoever. At this point, I’m regretting my decision.

i am sorry you are having such a tough post op. I am glad you are going back to the doctor because your situation is not the norm. sure some have a rougher few weeks than others but everyone gets better even if slowly so you need to see the doctor and work towards finding what is holding back your recovery.

good luck

Sorry honey, I feel bad for you. You had a sleeve??

mine was 6.1.18

i attest to feeling ok by keeping active.

i would find something to do around the house that didn’t require exertion .

Find something to do and move constantly throughout the day.

Thank you everyone! I’ve been trying to stay preoccupied but I start getting anxious when I know I need to eat.
I went back to work only a few days after the procedure. I thought I was feeling crappy just because it was so soon but now it’s been three weeks and not much has changed. Has anyone had a stricture? And if so, what did it feel like?

I've posted about my bad experience in the June group, so maybe you have already read that. I was sleeved 06/13. After surgery, once I was no longer vomiting and coherent enough to speak lol... I started with ice chips. Just the teensy bit of Water from a couple ice chips had me in so much pain. I felt like I had a huge weight on my chest, there is just so much pressure! My surgeon said that wasn't normal, but she wasn't surprised I was having issues because she noticed things looked too tight at the top (where esophagus and stomach meet). We were hopeful it would get better as swelling went down, and it has improved a tad, but it still is painful to swallow and I do still get that big pressure in my chest of things getting stuck.

I am scheduled 07/19 for an endoscopy, where they will be dilating that opening to my stomach.. I imagine it's going to help a ton!

I am not getting my fluids in because it is painful to drink, so I have to get IV fluids twice a week at least until it gets fixed. My surgeon said that me not feeling well and being exhausted has a lot to do with dehydration.

I'm no doctor, but it sounds like you may be in the same boat! See if you can get an order for IV fluids.. even once a week might help. Just until they get your swallowing issues under control. The IV fluids are supposed to make you feel much better in general.

Hang in there! It sucks feeling alone in having a rocky start, but I'm sure things will improve for us both! Message me if you ever need to talk or vent about it. 😘

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
