Hi all. I am scheduled for sleeve surgery a week from today - July 6th. My surgeon had my Pre-op diet as a list of foods to avoid (including bread, sweets, corn, Beans, etc) and a list of approved foods such as meat, eggs, dairy, etc so that we can "shrink our livers" for the surgery. I started mine early in hopes of getting in sooner (the nurse told me if there was a cancelation and I had 14 days under me I could move up).

I've been following it pretty religiously, and as such in 17 days, I've lost 27lbs. But this close to the finish line has me paranoid. There was a time I ate organic Jerky thinking it was meat and discovered halfway through it contained cranberries (fruit is a big no-no on the list), and another that I ate alot of BBQ Sauce on a chicken breast only to discover it was like 15g of sugar per serving (sugar being another no-no). On top of these accidental mess ups, I'm starting this being diagnosed with "fatty liver syndrome."

Will these things cause my liver to not shrink enough for surgery?

Anyone had a similar experience with fatty liver or not strictly following the Pre-op diet exactly and your liver shrinkage/surgery went as planned?

Thanks for any responses helping to soothe the mind of this worrier [emoji6]

I'd be honest with the surgeon's office, just in case. But for most of the pre-op diets on here, you would probably be ok so long as you're more careful going forward. But surgeon's requirements do vary. Since you're doing extra days, my bet is that you'll be fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
