I see people mentioning stalls on here but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to discuss them more in depth.

My mom is three weeks post off and is having a stall she dropped 20+ lbs by her two week check up but has been sticking around the same weight since her two week appointment. She has gone from liquid to blended foods, still eating very little at each eating encounter, but is getting her Protein in each day. I keep telling her stalls are going to happen but she's getting frustrated. Any advice or pep talks are greatly appreciated

She is feeling like a failure.

Thanks guys

Stalls happen over and over again. They are frustrating, but they are inevitable.

Weight loss no matter if it's with WLS or not is nonlinear. We hit plateaus, we gain. BUT over time we lose. She needs to step back and look at the big picture. She lost 20+ lbs in two weeks. That is an unsustainable. Even if she stalls for a week, 20 lbs in three weeks is HUGE, if she stalls for two weeks (unlikely) 20 lbs in a month is still huge. When in her life has she lost weight that quickly? She needs to have the perspective of, I've lost 22 lbs in 15 days vs. I haven't lost anything in 3 days.

I lost maybe 13 pounds in the first week and have only lost 3 pounds since then and I'm almost a month out. I stick to between 450-700 calories a day, getting my Protein and fluids in. It can be very frustrating. I'm trying not to be at this point. Did she take measurements before surgery? Even through a stall, we can be losing inches. My clothes fit much better and I'm actually in a size smaller at this point. Good luck!

i lost a lb a day for the first couple of weeks and stalled for about a week. it's not unusual. your body is adjusting a lot. if she keeps to her program she will begin to lose again soon. and then stall, and then lose. it's part of the process. hope that helps!

oh! also - when she's cleared to exercise that will also bring on more weight loss. all in good time.

I lose slowly and stall often, currently stalled since June 2nd but I have realized that my body does not lose in a linear pattern. It stops for a break and then starts again. Plenty of people have different patterns of weight loss some lose then gain then lose. But ultimately lose. Even if it's just a couple of oz it's a loss.

But a word of caution on weighing constantly, it can sabotage you if there is not a constant downward pattern. Try focusing on other things like creating patterns of behavior for future success such as self care, meal prepping, exercise, hydrating, support groups, Vitamin routine, and balancing all this with real life.

Safe Journey!

I hit a three week stall.
Now I’m at a 5 week stall.
Each seems to want to last a week.
I’ve lost twenty pounds in 5 weeks BUT
I’ve gone from a size 16 to a 12 SO I know that during these stalls, inches are being lost, the body is doing good things!
It’s not just about pounds!
You can tell her that.
(Let her know I’m no kid! I’ll be 54 in a few months. It’s slower for those of us who have seen a couple rounds!). :)

Losing 20 lbs in 5 weeks is definitely not slow!! And going from size 16 to 12 is amazing!! I think eveyonrs expectations are way too high. Im in my 50s and I listened to younger people tell me how great they felt after surgery as they bounced right back. The weight seemed to fall off for them. Not so easy forms. Everyone is different. Everyday is s struggle for me. I've lost 30 lbs in two months and I'll take it!! I've never done that before!! And I have to choice. At this point, two months post op I'm focusd on eating my Protein and drinking Water, taking my Vitamins , starting to walk and getting my strength back.

Oh, yes! I know! I’m so grateful for this surgery. And I realize it’s not actually slow. But the “stalls” make it seem so. That’s what I was trying to pass along.
Although I’m 20 pounds down from surgery, I’m 100 pounds down from my highest weight 10 years ago. I feel better now than I did in my early 40’s!!!

Yes, I totally agree about the stalls. I'm two months out. Had sleeve on may 2nd and I haven't lost a pound in three weeks. I was frustrated at first and sad but trying not to focus on the scale. Your weight loss is inspiring.

If you have time could you post a sample of what you eat in a day, please? I'm running out of ideas of foods to eat. Thank you so much.

I had my sleeve on June 1 and lost 21 lbs between June 1 and 22. I have not lost an ounce since. Gained almost a pound and then went back down to 264, and now I’m stuck there. It’s really frustrating.

I am incredibly boring and a terrible example because I do not care about food. I never really have. My “being fat” thing was always about hiding my body, not about “loving food”.
So I’m boring:
BREAKFAST...Shake It Pea Protein Shake in morning with juice Plus Orchard, Vineyard and Vegetable capsules emptied in it for added nutrition,
LUNCH...1.5 -2 ounces chicken, pork or ground beef
DINNER...same as lunch
SNACK...1 egg or 1 tablespoon creamy Peanut Butter (never both in one day) or 1/4 avocado
EVERYDAY...2-3 sugar free popsicles
If I need more Protein, I grab more meat or shake.< br />

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
