No weight loss since started working out

I am almost 18 months out, down from 277 to 170 but the weight loss has stopped. I started working out in April and I haven't lost anything since. I am doing about 45 minutes of weight training and 1 hour of treadmill which consists of a little over 3 miles a day, I do this 5 days a week. I know muscle is heavier than fat but i'm struggling mentally with the scale not moving. I feel like 170 is still big. Anyone else working out have any advice or motivation?

107 lbs is downright awesome! Congrats! I understand the frustration with the weight stall, but have you lost inches since you started working out?

You've lost over 100 lbs!

How do you feel? How does your team feel about your progress? Congrats on your success!

I have lost inches but not so much in my waist area. I just want the belly fat to go away! I have been in a stall or what ever you wanna call it for a few months now.

I feel great!! Haven't been to doctor since end of February, they were very pleased. I go back in August hopefully they can help me achieve a little more weight loss. I am working hard at it, I just don't want to have to work this hard forever. It scares me that i'm stuck at this weight, does that mean if I mess up i'm going to start gaining again. It's making me crazy!

I think it probably just means your body is taking time to adjust to the new normal. And lots of the veterans have said that the belly fat is notoriously slow to lose. UGH!

Yeah the things I didn't want to lose (boobs and ass) went 1st and the thing I want to lose the most won't go away.

I don't know how many calories you eat but if u work out that much i would bet u need to increase the calories bout 200. U are burning alot and need fuel for the body to live

I don't know if this helps, but I was watching a YouTube video with Kathleen Golding and she's was saying she only weighs once a month because the scale can be our enemy we focus so much on losing lbs that we forget your losing inches. Maybe hiding your scale for a couple weeks will help.

I had the same issue (loss slowed dramatically) when I started to do more heavy work outs. I was alternating running 3 - 3.5 mi, biking 20 or so miles or doing something with weights. As you said muscle is heavy and you end up not losing weight but your shape does improve. I noticed that despite my weight barely moving I went down 4" on my waist. To keep yourself motivated there are a few things you can do: Measure yourself (arms, legs, waist, etc) and you should see some changes. Take photos (you may not notice change for a while). Do body fat vs lean mass analysis (some gyms offer this, my nutritionist recommended a fitbit scale that does it), or just know you're doing the right thing and not worry about it (that's my personal strategy).

Congrats on all the weight loss and on the working out. Sounds like you're setup for long term success!

From my past experience (Way in the past, I was still a kid). It takes 4 to 6 months for the body changes to kick in. I'm sure you know the whole lighter weight/higher reps to tone up and heavier weight/lower reps to bulk up. It doesn't seem like your trying to bulk up so stick with lighter weights that allow you to feel a burn at 12 to 15 reps. It will feel easy until you hit the higher rep when you start to feel the burn. Eventually your body will adjust to the weight and you won't feel the burn as much. Add reps, say up to 15 to 20 or switch up your exercise working the same body part but doing a different movement. This will hit the muscle group in a different way. Takes breaks between muscle group workouts so they have time to rest and recover. For your midsection do an abdominal workout every other day and change the exercise. Always remember proper form and slower movement. If you can't keep proper form your using to heavy of weight.

Don't be discouraged, it all takes time and you seem like you have the determination to get there. With the lifestyle/diet your already following you'll get there and it will be easy to stay there.

Congrats on your success so far and best of luck on the new workout routine. Now I just need to remember this when I get there.....

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
